This weekend holds one of professional golf’s greatest weekends with The Master’s tournament. This is the first of four golf majors of the year. The tournament is held at Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia with a prize purse of $11M - The tournament begins Thursday, 4/11/19.
The weather forecast for the tournament is not good – thunderstorms are expected to come in on Round 2 (Friday), and continue through the weekend. Should the tournament be delayed, the forecast for the beginning of next week is good. With the storms rolling in, the wind is also expected to be over 10 miles per hour, making the conditions even more challenging.
The field for the tournament is what you would expect from one of the biggest events of the year – the world’s top players will be competing. Rory McIllroy is the oddsmakers favorite to win, followed closely by Dustin Johnson. In somewhat of a surprise, the odds have Tiger Woods as the 4th greatest to win. Past winners Jordan Spieth and Bubba Watson are hoping to play solid golf, but Justin Thomas, Rickie Fowler and Jon Rahm have a good shot at winning the tournament as well.
I always enjoy watching The Master’s on TV – the tournament is steeped in tradition and the Georgia course is second to none when it comes to pure beauty of the course. The spectators are a different crowd as well, being more conservative and traditional, as compared to many of the golf tournaments these days that are leaning toward the younger and more rowdy crowds.
I am adding to the fun by playing a FanDuel fantasy competition, and here are my picks:
Enjoy The Masters!
