Have you ever heard of FGM?

FGM is the short version of Female Genital Mutilation. This is a tradition in several countries even though a lot of girls die, because of it. In every eleven seconds a girl gets through this horrible procedure and every third of them dies. The age rage for this cutting is between six and 14 years. The girls think that this is going to make them a woman and makes them clean. This cutting proves that they are humble for their husband. They even make a little celebration before the procedure. The mothers when they are aboard go back to their hometown and get their daughters cut. This surgery makes them live their life in pain and depression. They do this also in a really unhealthy way. The person who does the cutting usually use a blade or a broken glass piece. These are not sterile and the use the same blade on all the girls. That’s why the young women get often ill afterwards, too.

That’s why the Lotus Charity was created raising awareness for this issue with street art. Somebody helps the girls to get through the aftermath of the cutting and educate them. That’s the moment when the girls realise that this is actually a bad thing. The initiative is organising events where people can get more information of this horrible tradition. Presentations and showing paintings and other artworks are created for this event. You can donate also to smaller charities which have the same concept as the Lotus Campaign. Our job was to make posters, t-shirts and a little video of the FGM and the Lotus Charity.
