Tooth and Tail (game): simple, fun, cheap RTS
RTS games are likely my favorite genre of modern gaming. I first became hooked with DUNE and Command and Conquer years and years and years ago. I really enjoy the balance of resource management combined with chosing the correct units for a small skirmish, and also of having the option of building a great defense and then just completely overwhelming your enemy. Tooth and Tail is a throwback of sorts in that the game really isn't terribly complicated.
As anyone who plays these games can attest, sometimes when a developer tries to innovate what they actually end up doing is complicate. I have picked up certain RTS games where resource management was far too complicated, to the point where it was difficult to focus on battle because during that time your resources have been messed up to the point of no return. Other RTS games such at Northgard introduced an aspect of it being necessary to keep your population happy or they will refuse to fight or even worse defect. While I thought this was a more realistic approach to how people would actually function in real-life, I didn't really enjoy it.
Tooth and Tail returns to the roots, where gameplay consists of simply gathering and protecting resources (farms) and building various units with various strengths and weaknesses such as range, defense, and of course offense. The farms will eventually stop producing, so it is necessary to continue to find more farm areas in order to keep your food supply steady. If you start to fail at this approach it becomes necessary to sell some of your structures and kind of balance out your economy, so to speak.
Combat is a simple "hey everyone! move over here and fight." You can micromanage certain units such as in a situation of putting an area under siege with long-range weapons, but I am more of a completely overwhelm the enemy by bringing the entire squad.
Your units automatically respawn so it doesn't really matter if they get wiped out.
One of my favorite things about this game is the ability to play it easily by using either the keyboard or a controller. Sometimes I like keyboard and mouse, sometimes I like to kick back and use my wireless Xbox 360 controller from the sofa. Either one is fine and there are only about 4 buttons used and you can't assign group numbers (like in Starcraft) so there is no disadvantage to using a controller.
The only downside of this game is that the graphics are very basic, which could be intentional in order to keep this game playable even on old computers. This is just fine for me as I think a lot of games of today substitute quality gameplay for high-end graphics. However, I do know that a lot of people out there would look at the pixels and because it isn't 4k, not want to play it.
Starcraft 2 it is not; but if you like a quality, easy-to-play RTS game that costs less than $10, this might be for you. Oh the game is quite funny too and that is always a plus for me.
I can easily recommend Tooth and Tail for anyone who enjoys the genre, even if you don't care for multiplayer. The story mode is robust and greatly enjoyable, but the multiplayer still has all the bells and whistles that veterans expect by now like replays and post-match graphs. I hope that a strong community forms around Tooth and Tail because it has rekindled my love of RTS games.Those looking for a hot new strategy game should look no further than Tooth and Tail. Providing endless amounts of fun with fair and fast-paced action, Tooth and Tail fights tooth and nail for its place in the RTS pantheon. It proves that innovating on an old school genre is sometimes the best thing needed. This doesn’t mean other games have to follow this design from here on out, but it shows that things can be done differently while being immensely enjoyable.

Nice game and a lovely gameplay this has. A real time startegy game. To be honest i dont like strategy games except for those with intertesting graphics and which are fiction like clash of clans. This one has attracted my eyes coz it includes animals. Thanks for sharing. This is worth more than $10 i think. Keep up the good work.
Good looking game and pretty strategic it seems to be. I like it because it's very interesting and unlike other games like game of thrones and all is not much realistic.
