Seven Pounds (film): A powerful performance by Will Smith

in #getyerlearnon6 years ago

Will Smith has a reputation of being involved in generally pretty good films and this one was not an exception. I feel as though Smith is a very versatile actor and Seven Pounds shows some of his better dramatic work in my opinion.

The movie begins with Smith making a phone call to 911 emergency services stating that he wants to report a suicide and when they ask "whose suicide," he responds "mine."

Then the movie completely changes gears and doesn't refer to what that scene was about for nearly the entire film. I like how they did this because they don't narrate it, they show it by the actions of Ben Thomas as he begins gathering intel on various people in the community. He is presenting himself sometimes as Tim Thomas, an IRS agent - who is actually his brother (in the movie.) It isn't immediately revealed that he actually is not an IRS agent, but needs his brother's credentials to gain access to these people.

He primarily uses this false identity to be able to speak to Emily Posa, a woman who is in the hospital suffering from a heart disease that will eventually result in her death. At first his actions seem heartless and cruel because she is dying, and he is there to talk to her about back taxes that she owes to the government.

However, it is all a ruse because he doesn't actually work for the IRS, never has. He is actually determining whether or not she is a legitimately good person.

He does something similar while investigating Ezra Turner, who is played by Woody Harrelson. Ezra is a blind vegan who works for a meat distribution company. The initial scenes are very powerful as Ben phones him up and is incredibly mean to him.

I don't want to ruin too much of the story but the reason that Ben / Tim is looking for these two as well as 5 other genuinely good people is because he was driving and texting when he crashed his car and hit an oncoming vehicle, killing 7 people in the process. This is the reason for his search, and I will leave it at that because you really should see this movie.

Hiii... Gooddream

This is the superb movie I watch twice...

This movie is one of the best films i have ever watched by far. The direction of the film along with the acting was simply world class. It's an emotional roller-coaster. Yes it is slow, yes it gets a little boring, but whilst your watching the movie your always taking in the story line and my does the movie make up for it in the last 30 minutes when the jigsaw is put together and the full plot is revealed. I think this movie is actually better than The Pursuit Of Happiness which most will know was also a very good film. The character is sincere about his lofty goal, but walks a tightrope between legal action and complex spiritual Karma. In doing so, the audience witnesses his personal struggle and his humble admission to make up for his mistake. Michael Ealy plays his brother Ben, while Woody Harrelson plays Ezra Turner. Rosario Dawson plays Emily Posa, the adhesion to the film and a remarkable assets to the story. A good film and easily recommended, despite the fact the movie strains the audience's patience with its snail's pace and tawdry length

Pretty good movie and also very great sequences and a good build up too. Smith will has acted very nice and why not it matches his personality. Though many things have been left in suspense and not being discovered. Like smith 's suicide reason. These things make the movie an adventure to be seen. I will watch this one coz the trailer is impressive.

i love Will Smith, he has a good sense of humor , and excellent actor too.

Awww, am getting a very positive vibe about this, i like how suspenseful u made the post

Hehehe @gooddream, I've never seen him put a wrong foot before. Natural talent to make even bad scripts watchable

The movie was very touching. And no matter what role he embodies, he does everything perfectly. I love him, since the series the Prince of Bel Air :-)! And his music is pretty danceable too. A nice guy! Thank you for this Post!

For me, this one is middling, because it telegraphs way too much about what is going to happen in the first scene.

This means there's a plodding nature to the subsequent action, whereby we can guess too much about what's going to happen, so we feel little suspense, and therefore have too much time to absorb the fact that the movie is taking itself very very very seriously.

On the other hand, all the performances were great, and I fell in love with Rosario Dawson in this movie, such that when she was hired to appear in EVERY SINGLE MARVEL NETFLIX TV SHOW, I was actually really happy to see her every time.

This is the first movie I haven't vibed with as much as you have, but hey, that's my loss. I'm probably way too shallow to get it. :)

nice story for the movie. understood a bit of the movie however some parts of the movie are very unpredictable and very suspense filled. will smith has acted great in the movie as usual in other movies too. Tim has acted great too. thanks for sharing.

Hi gooddream. i am not a big fan of Will Smith so haven't seen this one. Maybe I will give him another chance.
