Prison Break Season 5: All the problems I can think of (Spoilers)

in #getyerlearnon6 years ago (edited)

I finished the season last night and found the final episode to be a bit of a let down. I am not going to get into details about that particular episode and simply say that after waiting 8 episodes for T-Bag's involvement in the show, I was very disappointed about how inconsequential his character was.

I encourage others to add to this list if you have seen this season (or really any of the other ones,) some of this information will be redundant if you have read the individual write-ups i did about each episode.

I have been accused at times of being a negative person. This is something I don't necessarily disagree with but I am not negative just for the sake of being negative. I am quite picky when it comes to TV shows / movies and while I do find Prison Break entertaining for the most part, there are so many nuances about these things that is completely outrageous compared to real life. Here we go!

  • It is determined that Michael Scoffield is now known as Kaneil Outis and there is no way that the government would ever recognize him as otherwise. However there is one problem with this: Michael is covered in tattoos and seeing ias how this is a MAJOR aspect of how a person is identified and the fact that he has been on the news as a wanted criminal in now 3 different countries, certainly there would be some records about a guy covered in his exact tattoos from his time in various prisons thereby proving his identity as Michael Scoffield.

  • The "eye" tattoos on his hands have extremely intricate layers that the CIA computer nerd has to spend loads of time on deciphering. The intricacies are so far into his palms that you can actually see the lines of his skin. We think there is going to be something important in there, but no, it is just a poetic statement of revenge. He was clearly showing his tattoos to his brother Lincoln in episode one, wanting him to look at them. I can't help but feel as though the writers hadn't figured out what to make of his tattoos throughout the entire series and just decided to have the tattoo say "Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake." huh?

  • this season of Prison Break saw the crew in 4 different countries, 3 of which are not native English-speaking. At no point did anyone not speak English or were there even any sort of language difficulties.

  • The Korean guy, aside from one scene, didn't do anything. I mean seriously, why was he even in this? He was presented as being an essential part of Michael's break-out plan because he is super rich and has connections but he never does anything except follow Michael. He only concocts a plan once to take out a few guards. That's it

  • T-Bag, the best character in the series wasn't used. Why the bionic arm? Did they simply not want to CGI his missing limb anymore? He's only in about 2 minutes of the entire season, which is a dern shame.

  • The Elvis dude gets involved simply to build a true to life reenactment of the murder scene that got Michael in trouble in the first place only to have it be of little consequence because computer nerd guy confessed everything to the CIA anyway, thereby exonerating Michael.

  • Although it was rectified a little bit in the last episode where Michael speaks audibly, he whispers all of his dialogue throughout all other episodes.

  • you can not travel from Yemen to Crete on a boat in 12 hours

  • a gasoline truck will not explode if you shoot one bullet at it

  • in his fight in the desert with Michael, "Cyclops" is rolling around on the ground struggling with Michael, in this fight sequence his glasses go from being on his face to not being on his face several times. Also, because Micahel has to leave said fight in a forward direction in a car, where the fatally wounded "Cyclops" is currently lying, "Cyclops" magically moves over a couple meters between camera angles so Michael doesn't have to run him over.

  • when Mike (Michael's son) see's what he is meant to believe is his mom in a chair in the other room, he finds out that it is not his mom and he freaks out a little bit and then calmly returns to coloring. If I was 7 and saw that my mom's face had just changed dramatically, I would have started screaming and certainly not just went "oh whatever, back to coloring."

  • When the Navy Seals board the relatively massive boat to try to find Michael and co, no other crew members are shown other than the captain and Sucre. Certainly a ship of this magnitude would have a just a few more crew members.

  • as i mentioned before, if you jump off a massive ship moments before it get's struck by a cruise missile, you still die.

  • the reason why the ship had a missile fired at it was because it was nearing the end of international waters (which is a mere 12 miles, almost within sight) of either Algeria or Morocco, I don't remember which. Someone would have noticed a massive explosion, but of course they didn't.

  • When Michael and co. are discovered by a fishing boat floating around in their life-raft, the sole person aboard of course speaks fluent English (as fishermen tend to in northern Africa.) Then the captain immediately agrees to take them to France despite the fact that they have no money and there is no chance that he has enough fuel to make the 2000km journey.

  • T-bag feels a great attachment to his son that he never met before. If you know anything about T-bag, he isn't terribly drawn to normal human emotions.

  • Poseidon is too small to be considered physically intimidating

  • Poseidon's impenetrable office stronghold has tons of windows and is located on the ground floor of Ithica University.

I'm running the risk of this becoming too long so I'll cut it off here although there are many many many more plot holes in season 5. I saw a funny article on another website in regards to Season 5: "Prison Break was never a great television show, but it was always agreeably stupid. "

I found myself continuing to watch the show based on the absolutely ridiculous nature of it - trying to find more and more impossibilities in the script. The show plays out like the writers only wrote the first episode in an attempt to show it to screening audiences to test whether or not people would watch it. Then, upon finding that they would they scrambled to make an actual story - kind of like all the episodes of LOST past season 3. They realized they don't really have an objective or a story, so they just made it up as they went on.

They even left the door open for a season 6 where Michael works for the CIA. I would bet money on the fact that this happens and Michael will have only one request: "I get to choose my crew." Stay tuned for that one.

Sort:

The show's sequel could have been much better! I liked action, suspense, actors' play and the whole idea, but its implementation feels way too weak even lame. Too many small and big flaws in the plot, illogical steps the characters undertake (in prison, in desert, on ship, everywhere...- why bomb the whole ship in favor of sending hit men after Sara coming to Michael in Greece?), there are many other - over- twisted actions without a real need, and I didn't understand final episode denouement((. Feels like filmmakers' main aim was to make fast buck and make it as quick as possible without putting the back into the plot's details. They at least could have explained Michael's miraculous healing, couldn't they?

To be honest this ending kinda doesn't make any sense. We've seen Poseidon throwing Michael around like a rag doll and Michael barely managed to beat him. WTF is T-Bag going to do to him? Sing a song lol?

@gooddream, Do you like to watch serial or special episodes of any type?????

I tend to enjoy series that aren't really series - that is, the episodes are not tied to one another in many (or any) ways. Black Mirror is an example of this. I think that a good director can make an epic show in 40 minutes and that when you have something like Prison Break, where there really isn't a story at all, it is obvious they are just doing it for the money.

Very nice argument @gooddream. I agree with all of your views and i dont think you are at all negative. Picking up errors and stating honest claims doesn't mean that one is negative all the time. I was also disappointed at T-bag's lack of influence in the whole season. Also that Korean guy, he was supposed to be an effective character. But where was he? I bet he was for nothing except going after Michael Scoffield. I dont say the show is a flop. It is veey entertaining but they just need to get things going the right way. Fix some bugs Nd then people are gonna be positive.

Thanks for the spoilers of Prison break Season 5 so far. as long as i got to know from your blogs about it, this season was a total fuss to be realistic. i am not negative and neither you are. though many of the scenes seemed interesting. by far the show wasnt as good as it should ve been. Episodes were all linked together with T-bag merely involved. indeed the episodes were copy of the previous ones. i thought the last one would be intersting but it isnt that at all. The korean did nothing as to be an effective character along the lines of Michael scoffield. i dont try to be offensive neither i hate the show in any manner. but i think for the people who are fans of it, the show should have been more of a block buster.

Really interesting story.Hope we will get more like that

I like its suspense. The mind behind every breakthrough.

That's amazing that you give a thorough review, as this is hard to find these days. moreover it had inspired me to write more reviews on whatever movie i watch or like. although i am still learning to write in more appropriate way.

Prison break is one of my favourite series, I found T-Bag's performance awesome, and this may be the reason, i like the show. I also like alex's(the FBI agent), and paul's role. Though, I have not watched this season yet.
