Guild Wars 2 classes: Necromancer

in #getyerlearnon8 years ago

If you have no intention of playing Guild Wars 2 I would imagine this won't really apply to you. However, the game is completely free (no cost to buy, no monthly subscription.) So if you like online games the price doesn't get much better than "free." You can play for free for an unlimited amount of time. As i mentioned in my previous article I have been playing on and off for over 4 years and have never paid a a subscription fee.

Necromancer was the first class I ever played in this game and is still my favorite class to use. I have tried them all and this is the character I find myself logging in to play with the most. I didn't know this when I started playing, but it is widely accepted that Necro's are the easiest class to play because it is so easy to stay alive and solo enemies.

The reason for this is simple. The Necromancer has the power to summon undead minions to fight on your behalf. As the game carries on you can actually have quite a lot of them at once too.

you can actually have even about 5 more than this pic shows

Because of the fact that the minions will take damage for you and dish out quite a lot of it too, you need not worry about dying nearly as often as other classes do. Each minion does a relatively low amount of damage, but if you have 10 of them, that doesn't matter much.

The Necromancer also has the ability to enter something called "shroud," which gives you an entirely different health bar, which means you will not even be taking damage on your main hit points as long as you remain in shroud.

you have 5 new skills once you enter shroud as well

The necromancer uses light armor, which as the name might suggest, the weakest armor in the game. However, since you can set up every battle so that the focus is on your minions, the armor wont really come into effect nearly as often as it will with other class types.

There are two main types of generally used Necros out there. The Glass Cannon and the Conditionmancer.

The Glass Cannon focuses your attributes entirely on outgoing damage and none on defense or healing. This is wonderful unless you find yourself in a situation where something will be able to hit you, in which case you are likely going to die in 1 or 2 hits.

The Conditionmancer focuses on conditions, which is basically damage-over-time effects such as poison and bleeding (there are others but i think you know what i mean.) This is particularly useful because you will likely be spending a lot of your time staying out of reach of the enemy and dodging in order to avoid damage and your "conditions" are still damaging your opponent.

Here is a video showing gameplay performed by someone much much better than I am at the game. Skip halfway through to not watch all the stuff that will be meaningless to you if you have never played because he shows you how to "build" the toon.

Basically, if you are going to give this FREE game a try and are a casual player, i think it is hard to beat the necromancer in terms of how easy it is to use right out of the gate so to speak.

Sort:

Unfortunately last time I had played, Arenanet had completely disregarded necromancer as a class for raiding. I remember looking at best builds for Necros in raids and seeing nothing lol. Was kind of frustrating getting declined from every raid party in LFG, and sometimes being asked to switch class by my own guild haha.

you are correct. but i don't think that was A-net's doing so much as the community. They have their own ideas and I don't get involved with the elite players because i find them toxic, just like any online community. A-net, i think, works very hard to create balance.

Lol, it is free yh? Am out to try it, there nuin better than a good game without subscription, The Necromancer play looks very interesting and in favour of amateurs like myself however i like a challenge every now and then so i guess i would also try the other level of plays, how many are there in total?

the max level is 80, but you will get there very fast.

in a free account you have access to 9 classes. you can only have 2 characters i think. it might be 3 (for free)

Owk i think i love the fact that the necromencer can actually summon the minions to fight on his behalf but what does it take to enter the shroud mode? Does it just happen at random?

The game looks cool but i am not really a fan of adventures like this. i might get bored with it easily since it isnt human.

shroud is entered intentionally by pressing f1. however, there is a certain skill trait that will automatically put you in shroud should you be hit with an amount of damage that would normally kill you.

This game is very controversial, I will try to play, The necromancer has power of ascription. that video shows it very well.

Excellent explanation, I'm not fond of video games. Greetings

The Necromancer, like many of the professions in Guild Wars 2, can approach battle in a number of ways. Not only can he fight with melee weapons but he can also dispense sinister spells from afar. These attacks cause traditional damage and also inflict numerous conditions on enemies, including "bleeding" which rips away at health and "cripple" which slows aggressors down.

These status-inducing attacks fling from the Necromancer so readily his enemies rarely have a chance to breathe. Only when confronted with multiple attackers at once does the Necromancer face danger. Which is why he summons worms and wraiths from the underworld to assist him in battle.

I don't think I'll give it a try, it's not my type of game, but thanks for sharing. I haven't played a videogame for a while. I have a PS3 and many games, even games I haven't play yet, but for some reason I haven't engage with it lately, maybe I'm getting old hahaha.
