Rock and mineral macro video: My finds from Mitch's Pond
I have traveled to Graves Mountain a few times now, maybe half a dozen. My most recent visit I investigated a specific area on the Graves Mountain property. This area is named "Mitch's Pond" as designated by signs upon walking up to the now dry lake bed.
In this dry lake bed there are really smooth white rocks, pyrophyllite minerals, yellow inclusions in silicia and some silica that was a orange color. I have never seen an orange silica crystal also known as a quartz crystal. Judging by where I found it, it may be acid etched. As it was sitting in a ravine and looks like alot of water has washed by it over many years. The water runoff is highly acidic due to the mining done at the location. So I assume the rain water mixed with the acid caused this color.
I found other common stones at graves like kyanite and lazulite. Little pieces but still pretty with their blue color.
Since @rt395 posts #mineralmonday I figured I would show off my recent finds too. Waiting till Friday is just too long.

I love the way you showcased these! I will definitely have to do it myself and make some videos! I've been meaning to make videos of some of my agates or maybe add a short video to my agate post! Great job and great finds! Thanks for showing me the glow!
@bitfiend
Thank you, ive taken some pointers from your photography and use them in my video. Your "lights off" approach really adds some great content so I figured id give it a try on my transparent rocks.
Yeah you should, looking forward to that Agate post. And no problem, glad you liked it.
I wished I could find cool rocks like that here.
@cosmiccrimes
You just need to find a dig site near you. I googled public mines in my area and found them.
I don't think there are many crystals around me. I live in town anyway. I would have to drive far away.
I am teased a lot for my love of odd rocks, I do not only love to find them, I have found that I love to see other peoples finds, thanks for sharing..
@myjob
Hah right? Some people think we are crazy with the amount of work we put in finding them. I think its well worth it. Yeah always nice seeing what others find and where they found it. Makes me want to travel out to those spots to find some for myself.
yes, I know what you are saying, while reading your post I was wishing Mitch's pond was near me. lol. My son lives in Colorado and is a rockhound, I am so jealous of the things he has found, one day I wish to go there and hunt with him.
@myjob
Ah well Colorado probably has better finds than Mitch's pond, probably better off hunting with him. I am amazed what comes out of colorado, I used to watch a show about it on Discovery channel or some learning channel. Just amazed!
yes, he has found some beautiful crystals and opals even diamonds some green crystals,which is my fav, and some blue ones, they are all awesome.
