A Geography Lesson - The Red River(s)

in #geography6 years ago (edited)

It wasn’t until I ran into some people through steemit that I found out there were two Red Rivers. Ok, there’s probably even more than that, but we’re talking major rivers, not small ones. Here’s a little blurb of info regarding the Red River Valley of the North.

I've always called it the red river but red river of the north makes sense if there are a few of them.

Maybe we should rename it to the spring flooding river since it always seems to flood in the spring :)

No kidding! It still amazes me how far the water backs up during the spring melt. Although, last year we didn’t have that problem. I hope it stays that way.

Heard the folk song, red river valley? It mentions a cowboy... I’ll reckon it’s referring to the one in TX/OK?

I haven’t heard that one before, but my guess if it says cowboy, it’s most likely talking about the one down south.

didn't like it. force me to learn stuff. I didn't feel like learning tonight. I feel like ice cream tonight. not learning.

Hey I asked you about that Red river the first thing didn't I?
Man the Red River here has tons of history surrounding it. I imagine yours up there is pretty boring. probably froze solid most of the year.

ok I'll let ya go, nice video!

You’re never too old to learn. Mmm ice cream. I think the local DQ is still open for the season. I may have to get some.

I think you were. But then again, I don’t remember as well as I used to. Your Red River could be the subject of your next series! Boring?! Nor sir, have you heard of the flood of ‘97?

never heard of it. what happened. some cows drowned or something?

Never heard of it? I think it was big news back in its day. The Red flooded two cities on each of its sides and there was widespread power outages.

sounds kinda boring. no wonder I didn't hear about it. poor babies up there were probably thrown into a tizzy though with no power. lol. I'm sorry I'm feeling ornery tonight, I gotta get some sleep. God bless you guys up there!

oh hey, you use traps in the shed right? we used to have a big stainless steel box looking trap that would fill up with mice and we kept the population so thinned out that we didn't have any problems, that was on the farm.

Yup we do. And they are doing their job. Oh man for mice! I believe they’ve used those kinds of traps before. Not sure if they still do, or if they don’t, why they quit. I would like to have a farm cat to take of the problem, but you know, Chester just doesn’t know how to play nicely with them.

haha! just like Jack and our Guineas, we never could get him used to them to the point where he wouldn't chase them. so I guess that's just the way some of them are...dogs I mean.

You tried to raise guineas?

Darn dtube...not going to play this video!!!! I'll try again at a later time!

WOW, I didn't know that either. I just assumed there was only the one myself.

Be Blessed!

:)
