There is no conspiracy here, just a bunch of mad scientists with "ideas" and no "ideals" , misplaced resources and time , disconected from the environment. Rather than looking for sustainable alterations to out own behaviors , they think the world is bad for us poisoning it as you've said , no wonder it will lead to a rabbit hole to another dimentions where witches rule.

Blocking the atmosphere would be the worst thing to do , rather than cleaning the pollution so the heat can dissipate into space.

Weather control done by machines is also the worst solution , trees are there for a reason , we have enough plants , we don't need more plants to gather energy or whatever , there are real plants that actually do a batter job and have been for millions of years , just now we started playing God and here we are about to fuck up a planet :D . I doubt any of this will change the hard course and the behind the scenes mimicry.
Unless we stop and think for a bit , do that every day , get some momentum and get some of those "sleeping" people , the Matrix will own us and the skies will be dark.
It's a shame we are fighting amongst ourselves and just general stupidity and disconnect from people , I'm sure that if the government wasn't as big , or if they were thinking straight , they wouldn't b supporting madness and it will be stuff of fiction once again to think of "apocalyptic" scenarios.
