Niles, Michigan exploration 3-22-18
Drove from Adrian, MI to South Bend, IN last night. Stopped in a little town called Fremont where I encountered this Hawk? Sculpture. Got a geocache near it, snapped some photos and then moved on.
It was too dark to explore much once I got to South Bend yesterday, so this afternoon after work I wandered around the Niles, MI area doing some geocaching.
Yes, that is a fence post that has been swallowed by a tree! The Geocache was stuck to it.
There seems to be a few fences in trees around here!
In Pymm Park a cleverly disguised cache turns out to require a tool, luckily one of my travel bugs can double as a screwdriver!
Then I wandered through the Beeman Family Cemetery to check out a haunted mausoleum.
And stopped by the river to check out the old mill and the new mill:
The falls:
Then I headed south to South Bend, Indiana to find some dinner and one or two geocaches as well. Ended up only finding one- in a garden near where the river goes under this bridge:
And at long last it was time for dinner! I ended up at the Crooked Ewe Brewery which turned out to be fairly fancy but with good beer. Tonight's beer was a Recneps Oatmeal Stout and it was a 5.3% abv and 30% IBU. Tasted great, very smooth with a hint of spices.
Beer!
Tonight I finally finished another book from my bookshelf. It was an anthology of Zombie short stories that I picked up somewhere. It wasn't bad, some of them were entertaining, some of them were just silly, and some of them very, very, deep. Definitely not going to keep it though, going to drop it into a little Free Library somewhere on the next few days so that I don't have to try to pack it home.
I did some geocaching as well the past couple days but it wasn't anywhere as interesting as these.
If it helps, I miss having you to geocache with...
Me too. And I'm less effective alone.
you two are on a trip I see. Looks like you are having a good time. Nice pick on the beer.
Well, I'm on a business trip and he got to stay home with the cats and not have to deal with all the craziness of travel. I'll be home next Friday on the last flight into Missoula.
I'm currently working my way towards Chicago where I'll be spending a week wandering around various and sundry locations training people.
