👴Grandfather/Abuelito👴

Hello! I was without internet for several days, but I took the opportunity to finish this portrait of my grandfather. I got the reference from this photograph that for some reason makes me feel nostalgic, a memory of how life just keeps passing in front of our noses without realizing it until our pulse trembles and the feeling of youth only becomes a memory. My grandfather is a person who carries art in his veins, who always takes his "cuatro" and begins to play and sing songs that are a heritage for our country, that is why, although I did not do it, full body I wanted to reflect features of him within the composition as the instrument, the lyrics of a song by Simón Díaz and a parrot that he had some time ago.

Hola! Estuve sin internet varios días pero, aproveche para terminar este retrato de mi abuelo. La referencia la saqué de esta fotografía que por alguna razón me produce nostalgia, un recuerdo de como la vida solo sigue pasando delante de nuestras narices sin darnos cuenta hasta que nuestro pulso tiembla y la sensación de juventud solo se vuelve un recuerdo. Mi abuelo es una persona que lleva el arte en sus venas, que siempre toma su cuatro y empieza tocar y cantar canciones que son un patrimonio para nuestro país, por ello es que, a pesar que no lo hice cuerpo completo quise reflejar rasgos de él dentro de la composición como el instrumento, la letra de una canción de Simón Díaz y un loro que tuvo hace un tiempo atrás.

Initially to make this drawing I had to practice the shape of the face, its structure and above all, where the wrinkles were, I did this process digitally, I can't show it because I can't find the file on my laptop :(. Make a Elderly person is complicated because if you don't do it right they end up looking like raisins all wrinkled hahaha. Maybe you all haven't noticed it in the photo, but, my grandfather is blind in one eye due to diabetes, particularly it is a trait that is quite striking when moment of observing him and the portrait, in addition, it gives him a touch that is indescribable for me.

Inicialmente para realizar este dibujo tuve que practicar la forma del rostro, su estructura y sobre todo, donde iban las arrugas, éste proceso lo hice digitalmente, no lo puedo mostrar porque no consigo el archivo por ningún lado en mi laptop :(. Hacer una persona anciana es complicado porque si no lo haces bien terminan pareciendo unas pasas todos arrugados hahaha. Tal vez no lo notaron en la foto, pero, mi abuelo es ciego de un ojo debido a la diabetes, particularmente es un rasgo que es bastante llamativo al momento de observarlo a él y al retrato, además, le da un toque que es indescriptible para mi.

The reason why I only use three colors when painting the face (well, in this case I added some touches with brown, gray for the gray hair and green for his eye), is because I like to make realism but not a conventional one, Conventional bores me and that is why it is more entertaining to experiment with colors and play with the limit that each one allows you, because the limit is really set by us. Still, they are the primary colors so you can create very nice shades of greens, violets and oranges, although it cannot be seen in the photos and you can only see the face as a yellow block like a Simpson :(.

La razón por la que solo utilizo tres colores al momento de pintar el rostro (bueno, en este caso anexé ciertos toques con marrón, gris para las canas y verde para su ojo), es porque me gusta hacer realismo pero no uno convencional, lo convencional me aburre y por eso es más entretenido experimentar con los colores y jugar con el límite que te permite cada uno, porque el límite realmente se lo colocamos nosotros. Aún así, son los colores primarios por lo que se pueden crear matices muy bonitos de verdes, violetas y naranjas, aunque no se pueda apreciar en las fotos y solo vean la cara como un bloque amarillo como un Simpson :(.

It is important to mention that I like to do these jobs with natural light, they allow me to see details and color much better than using artificial white light, so I usually start working from 8am to 5pm when the sun begins to spread its beautiful rays creating a warm environment and a yellow atmosphere that I love with madness, thinking a bit in hindsight is what has led me to paint faces with earth colors, because observing the life that surrounds you is wonderful, I think that, if you are an artist, paying attention to those little things is what your plastic language is. since without realizing it, you begin to translate it into your works. You always have to question "Why did I do it this way?"

Es importante mencionar que estos trabajos me gusta realizarlos con luz natural, me permiten ver los detalles y el color mucho mejor que utilizando la luz blanca artificial, por lo que suelo comenzar a trabajar a partir de las 8am como hasta las 5pm que el sol comienza a desparramar sus hermosos rayos creando un ambiente cálido y una atmosfera amarilla que amo con locura, creo que, pensando un poco en retrospectiva es lo que me ha llevado a pintar rostros con colores tierra, porque observar la vida que te rodea es maravilloso, pienso que, si eres artista, prestarle atención a esas pequeñas cosas es lo va nutriendo tu lenguaje plástico ya que sin darte cuenta, empiezas a plasmarlo en tus obras. Siempre hay que cuestionarse el "Por qué lo hice de esta manera".

By the other hand, there will always be areas of the drawing that you will enjoy doing more than others, for example, I like to work in the area of the eyes, the nose and the mouth, the rest of the face (especially the forehead) gives me too much laziness hahahaha, that's why I usually take time doing my portraits since if I force myself to do it the result can be unsatisfactory and you can even ruin the drawing, my recommendation if at any time something similar happens to you is that, get up and take a breath, remember that everything is step by step and if you get saturated you can end up frustrated as it happened to me with the previous portrait I made for my boyfriend :l.

Por otra parte, siempre habrán zonas del dibujo que disfrutarás hacer más que otras, por ejemplo, a mi me agrada trabajar en la zona de los ojos, la nariz y la boca, el resto del rostro (sobre todo la frente) me da demasiada flojera hahahaha, por eso suelo tardar haciendo mis retratos ya que si me fuerzo a hacerlo el resultado puede quedar insatisfactorio y hasta puedes arruinar el dibujo, mi recomendación si en algún momento te sucede algo similar es que, te levantes y tomes un respiro, recuerda que todo es paso a paso y si te saturas puedes acabar frustrado como me sucedió con el retrato anterior que hice para mi novio :l.

And well, last but I think it is the most important thing since it is what I try to think the most... The composition. The composition contemplates a moment in my life where I am happy, I cry, I get stressed and I almost pull my hair out, because, with only one element where it shouldn't go and you end up spoiling everything, besides that here you cannot press "ctrl + z" to reverse it hahahaha. On this occasion I learned from the previous time and took a test before doing it in the original format, and, without messing with the face because, despite the fact that on one occasion I read about an artist that we must lose our fear of the work (step followed by a few strokes to an impressive drawing with many details) I, for my part, still don't feel ready for that. This would be the second portrait that I do in a much larger format than usual and, really, all the time invested and then just brushing it with paint or whatever does not convince me, for now hahahah.
Ah, I almost forgot that the rest I did with pastel oil, giving it a rustic and textured look, the colors are similar to those in the original photo, on top I applied white and yellow paint, I added it because I felt that I needed to integrate the face with those two elements that, I repeatedly to myself that LESS IS MORE and thank God the monster of filling all the blank space with things did not attack me, so it was a fairly acceptable composition leaving the face as the protagonist, and , the rest are in keeping with his personality.

Y bueno, por último pero es creo que lo más importante ya que es en lo que más me esfuerzo por pensar.... La composición. La composición contempla un momento de mi vida donde soy feliz, lloro, me estreso y casi que me arranco el cabello, porque es que, con tan solo un elemento donde no debería ir y terminas echando todo a perder, además que aquí no puedes darle "ctrl+z" para revertir el fiasco hahahaha. En esta ocasión aprendí de la vez anterior y realicé una prueba antes de realizarlo en el formato original, y, sin meterme con el rostro porque, a pesar de que en cierta ocasión leí de un artista que debemos perderle el miedo a la obra (paso seguido le echó unos brochazos a un dibujo impresionante con muchos detalles) yo por mi parte aún no me siento preparada para eso. Éste sería el segundo retrato que hago en un formato mucho mayor al acostumbrado y, de verdad, todo el tiempo invertido para luego solo pasarle unos brochazos con pintura o lo que sea no me convence, por ahora hahahah.
Ah, casi olvido que lo demás lo hice con óleo pastel, otorgandole un aspecto rústico y con textura, los colores son similares a los que están en la foto original, encima le aplique pintura blanca y amarilla, ésta última se la agregué porque sentía que necesitaba integrar el rostro con esos dos elementos que, me repetí incasablemente que menos es más y gracias a Dios no me atacó el monstruo de llenar todo el espacio en blanco con cosas por lo que quedó una composición bastante aceptable dejando como protagonista el rostro, y, lo demás se acompasan con su personalidad.
