Una gran peste negra envolvía a todos los pobladores de la ciudad jardín, bajaba como una neblina cada amanecer y cubría a los pobladores, luego se retiraba al salir el sol. Cada día se escuchaban los gritos desgarradores de las madres llorando a sus hijos mozos, se los iba llevando de a veinte cada vez. Con esa velocidad en una ciudad tan pequeña, pronto no quedaría población joven. El párroco José, tuvo un sueño debía subir al lugar donde provenía la neblina y traer ramas de los arboles allí encontrados, esos los sanaría rápidamente. Al día siguiente el mismo, organizó a los hombres que lo acompañarían en esta difícil escalada. Les llevó toda la mañana, cuando el sol estaba en el cénit lo único que estaba allí, en ese lugar lleno de agua eran unas palmas reales. Cortaron con cuidado algunas de las ramas y emprendieron el camino de regreso. Casi anochecía, así que debían repartir rápidamente trozos de palma real ya bendecida, en cada hogar para protegerlos de la neblina negra. Fue así como al día siguiente la enfermedad cesó en su iniciativa mortal. Los pacientes se recuperaban milagrosamente. De allí surgió la tradición heredada de padres a hijos de que cada año suben a buscar su palma real para repartirla en cada uno de los hogares de la ciudad.

It took them all morning, when the sun was at its zenith, the only thing that was there, that place full of water, were some real palms. They carefully cut some of the branches and made their way back. It was almost dark, so they had to quickly distribute pieces of the blessed royal palm in each home to protect them from the black mist. That was how the next day the disease ceased on his deadly initiative. The patients recovered miraculously. From there arose the tradition inherited from parents to children that each year they go to look for their royal palm to distribute it in each of the homes in the city.
