I GOT THE NEED FOR SEEDS! (Garden of Eden Seed Giveaway Contest Entry!)

in #gardenofeden6 years ago (edited)

EDIT: I've just discovered that even if I win, due to government regulations here in Japan, I cannot receive the seeds without the expensive and troublesome acquisition of a phytosanitary certificate from the US gov. As such, I will be donating the liquid rewards of this post to @gardenofeden. Thanks for your support, votes, and curation. I am very sorry about this change of plans.

Okra me a a river... 😒😅🤲🏼

(dad jokes truly are evil, aren’t they?)
No, seriously! I need ‘em!

As many of you that follow this blog may know, my family and I just recently made a move to a big house in the country here in Japan, which used to be a kind of farmhouse/rice production/gardening mini-homestead. This is the place I now lovingly refer to as the “KafkA Shack.”

Well, the landlord we are renting from is an organic gardener, and my buddy @nicksikorski is permaculturalist and farmer here in Japan as well. As such, with a little guidance from these two sources (and several kindhearted, green-thumbed Steemians!) I decided to start something I’d always really wanted to do: grow a big-ass garden and have an independent food source for my family, friends, and neighbors.

I recently ran across @gardenofeden’s post featuring a contest to win some okra seeds from the GOE seedbank. Garden of Eden is the real deal, and I’ve admired what they do, and been amazed by the incredible and generous productivity and knowledge for awhile now.

As it is hard to find quality, organic seeds from the stores around here, I thought I’d give the contest a shot.

So far our garden, though yet in its nascent stages, has already become a focal point for our family, around which we can gather, and which allows us to share more quality time together, bond, and just have some fun messing around in the dirt.

I really want to become much more self-sufficient, less dependent on standard, mainstream food suppliers, and learn to be an excellent gardener. I’d be tickled pink if I had a shot to grow some okra from the Garden of Eden. Okra is very popular here in Japan as well!

Sincerely,

Future Farmer,

Kaf.

Great to see you entering!
How exciting! I love seeds, gardening, natural living and sustainability!!!

Hey, @quinneaker. Thanks! Unfortunately I have just found out today that I cannot receive seeds through the mail here in Japan without a photosanitary certificate :(. Acquiring one from the US seems to be a costly and tedious process. Bummer for sure, but please go ahead and take me out of the list of contestants. I am going to donate the SBD rewards from this post to GOE, just so the voters' effort and enthusiasm doesn't go to waste. Sorry, everyone! The state strikes again :(

OHHHHHH NOOOOOOOOOO

Despite the cost of sending seeds to Japan I would love for you to have them!

yes bureaucracy is a major problem with the world...I mean I can understand why it can be dangerous but absolute rule is the dark side.

Anyways thanks for making the post, much appreciated. Hope to get to know you better in the future. The real blessing here is that now I know about you and your awesomeness and can be in contact!
