Outside the Garden
While I work hardest and take pride in reclaiming the lawn space to veggies, I also take pride in cosmetic accents in the yard as well. I nobly dedicate it to the bees and blame them on the girls but I do secretly love the flowers. Don't tell anyone. ;)
So, I noticed it has been over a week since the garden update. Given the slow start to the veggie growing season with the rain and the cool temperatures, I wondered what it would be like to capture some of the blooms and pretend my iPhone is an expensive DSLR. Work with me petals.
Truth be told, most are annuals planted before I moved here, and I doubt I could name any of them besides the lilacs. Hell, I am not even sure this next one isn't some poisonous hog's weed or something. It is still photo-worthy in its punk rock glory.
As I reflect on these shots, it occurs to me that I didn't realize how much colour is literally right at my doorstep. These are hearty blooms that come up earlier than the rest, making them almost maintenance free. They are often among the first meals for the struggling bees and a nice convenient escape for me. Seems silly that this actually is life and the rest is just shit we do between brief pauses to appreciate nature.
I tended to go more towards growing fruit and vegetables but I still have my patches of flowers and get immense enjoyment from their wonderful blossoms as I did with your beauties too!
Exactly. The veggies and fruit are worth the effort. Flowers like this that don’t need much attention are right up my alley.

Phone cameras are sometimes arguably better than DSLRs :P Well, it highly depends on who is the one holding the camera, but it is indeed good enough for most of the times.
And those are some beautiful pictures and flowers :) Would be even better if the colours are more saturated instead of somehow fading a little...I'm not sure if it's due to the light focusing or the hardware limitations of the iPhone itself, I haven't used an iPhone for a very very long time, lol.
Yah I love it for the convenience. I like to avoid all filters and see if I can get depth of field and colour composition right with the phone. Doesn’t always work too well.

Those flowers are gorgeous. I'm especially partial to lilacs. Thank you for sharing!
Sure thing!
I like lilacs as well because they are native to this area, grow hearty like weeds, and smell awesome in bloom.
I was always curious whether some years they don’t bloom in other climates like they do here.

Cool flowers. I've seen a couple people growing lovely poppies in my neighborhood. I've only got sun flowers.

Thanks man.
I have to plant some sunflowers still now that the sun is out. Can’t wait for the tiger Lillie’s to bloom as they are my favourite.

Wow, I wish I have that much of beautiful flowers in my garden, mine mostly are edible plants and veggies.
