Our last harvest this summer: "Cactus fruit" and "Fig"

in #gardening6 years ago

Hello dear Steemians,

today is another pictures from our garden harvest... the last harvest from this year. :-D
We still have tomatoes, but they will soon wither too because the temperature outside is getting cooler and the sun is no longer shining that long in a day.

Below are the picture of our cactus fruits and fig tree...
Yes, you read it correctly, we live in a cold Germany but there is indeed cactus as well as fig species that could withstand the harsh temperatur of German winter.
They are hardy enough to be able to bear some fruits.

This year is the first time we harvest some fruits from our cactus and I was rather surprised that we got quite many fruits in our first harvest because normally one is already lucky enough to get two or three fruits at first time.
It was the case at well with our cherry and apple tree.
The cactus fruits are not as big as you can buy in the supermarket and they also have more seeds inside but the taste...
hmmm.... it's really aromatic and sweet. ^_^

This is how the cactus flower looks like:

And below are the picture of the fruits:

If you are interested to plant a hardy cactus too, this is the exact name of the cactus species in our garden: Opuntia engelmannii. By the way my husband @jaki01 has written about our cactus previously here!.
And these are pictures of our fig tree which also taste really good. I'm actually not a fan of fig, my husband is. However this time I must say that I do like the taste of our own fig fruit.
This time we only got one fruit to enjoy, so we just cut it into two part and each of us gave a bite to our little Kobold. So it's fair enough for all the family member hahaha.
I hope we would harvest a bit more next year. The exact species name of our fig is Ficus carica 'Babits':

Thanks in advance for your upvotes and see you again soon. ^_^

nice photography ...
one of your best blog.
best of luck ...

What a great season for figs! I've been eating figs non stop this year lol your harvest looks amazing!

Great harvest! Ah! I don’t know before that cactus can provide fruits to us! The fruits are very big with bright color that I would love to try. Yes, they have really beautiful flowers as I saw them in the post of your husband, @jaki01. And your photos are also excellent.

I’m not a big fan of fig, too. It’s great that you can harvest various fruits and vegetables directly from your garden. Your little princess is very lucky and would especially be happy and get healthy with these. ;)

That is amazing photography and great article.
