'Mystic Maze' in all it's glory

Two years of waiting for this one to bloom... Orchids can really test your patience. But it is kind of not their fault. They do not like to move. And since the nurseries give them perfect conditions to grow, pump them with vitamins they grow fast and happy. Then then they moved from one place to another in dark boxes until they are put in a store. And then they are waiting for some someone to take the home. Nobody cares if they are watered, or not drained. If they have good light and enough room. So when they get home where the environment is again different they are in shock. And I am not messing. They need to adjust all over again to a different temperature, light, soil... everything. So they grow slow, or stop completely. The next growth is usually smaller and only after that it starts to look better.

Dwa lata czekania na kwiaty… Storczyki potrafią nauczyć cierpliwości. Ale to tak trochę nie ich wina. One po prostu nie lubią przeprowadzek. Rosną sobie w idealnych warunkach w szklarniach pędzone odżywkami. Potem bidulki pakowane są w kartony i wysyłane w świat. Ciemne hale, pudła i sklepowe półki. Aż ktoś zabierze je do domu. Nikt w sklepie nie dba o to czy jest im dobrze, czy mają wodę albo nie są przelane i powoli gniją. Gdy w końcu znajdą nowy dom dostają szoku. I wcale nie żartuję. Teraz muszą od nowa przyzwyczaić się do nowego miejsca, nowego światła, temperatury, podłoża… do wszystkiego. Rosną bardzo powoli, albo całkiem przestają na jakiś czas. Potem kolejne bulwy są zazwyczaj mniejsze i dopiero po dłuższym czasie roślina wychodzi na swoje.

That is how it was with this one. I got it in a shop when it almost lost all the flowers already. They were dry and started to fall off. I managed to see the shape, but barely any colour. It was discounted and I knew I had to have it. At home I reported it to a proper soil, she grew another bulbs but way smaller. It definitely wasn't happy. Of course no flowers from that one. I decided to put it in semi-hydroponics (after a year), since I noticed that she does like more water than other orchids and I can give it to her that way. Also it makes water evaporate faster = more moisture in the air, especially in the summer. This year she grew another bulb which was already bigger... and surprised me with this gorgeous flowers. She is still not looking the best, but getting there.

Tak właśnie było z tym osobnikiem. Kupiłam go w sklepie gdy już kończył kwitnienie. Kwiaty powoli opadały, ale jeszcze zdążyłam zobaczyć ich kształt, kolor już nie. Cena była niższa i wiedziałam, że muszę go mieć! W domu go przesadziłam, wyrosła kolejna bulwa, ale była dużo mniejsza. Cała roślina wyglądała dosyć mizernie, no i oczywiście zero kwiatów. Ponownie ją przesadziłam (w kolejnym roku) ale zmieniłam podłoże na semi-hydroponic (jak to po Polsku sie nazywa?). Zauważyłam, że ten storczyk lubi wiecej wody, i dzięki tej metodzie będę mogła to bardziej kontrolować. Więcej też wody paruje = większa wilgotność latem. W tym roku wyrosła kolejna bulwa. Dużo większa i w dodatku nareszcie zakwitła. Nadal nie jest to najpiękniejsza roślina, ale jest na dobrej drodze.

The flowers are amazing! Big, spidery ones. When they open the petals are green and after few days they get more yellow colour. The lip with the strong yellow and dark spots - yumm! And the fragrance... oh it smells so nice. I cannot describe it. There is something floral there, slightly sweet with citrus, but also a bit like masculine perfumes... Very nice!	Same kwiaty są niesamowite! Duże, pająkowe. Świeżo rozkwitnięte są niemal całkiem zielone, dopiero później nabierają bardziej żółtych kolorów. Dół piękny, żółty w ciemne ciapku - pychota! No i jeszcze dochodzi zapach… przepięknie pachnie, ale jest ciężki do opisania. Kwiatowy, trochę słodki, trochę cytrusów, trochę męskich perfum. Bardzo mi się podoba!

It is standing now in the kitchen together with my other blooming orchid - Dendrobium Phalaenopsis 'Purple Happiness'.	W tej chwili stoi razem z drugim kwitnącym obecnie storczykiem - Dendrobium Phalaenopsis 'Purple Happiness'

They both grow in clay pebbles now and bots seem to love it. This is how it looks like.	Oba rosną w semy-hydro i oba mają się świetnie. Tak to wygląda.
