Questo è ufficialmente il mio milleunesimo post su Steemit. Un piccolo traguardo per me che non ho mai avuto la costanza di scrivere regolarmente su un blog per più di qualche settimana.

This is officially my 1001st post on Steemit. It's quite remarkable for me, as I never succeeded in writing on a blog for more than a few weeks, in the past.

Qui sulle colline in provincia di Cuneo le temperature stanno scendendo rapidamente, eppure anche in questa stagione non manca il lavoro per un cryptofarmer.
E' infatti questo il periodo giusto per fare le talee legnose. Di cosa si tratta? Una talea è una tecnica di propagazione delle piante che consiste nel far radicare un rametto dell'albero che vogliamo moltiplicare. Per piccole piante come la lavanda o le rose la stagione delle talee è quella tardo primaverile. Viceversa, per gli alberi da frutto occorre aspettare l'autunno inoltrato, dopo che siano cadute le foglie e l'attività linfatica della pianta sia rallentata.

Here on the hills in the North-West of Italy, temperatures are falling rapidly, but even in this season a cryptofarmer has some work to do.
In fact, this is the right period for propagating fruit trees. While for little plants like lavender or roses it's better to propagate their cuttings in late spring, for fruit trees you should wait until late autumn, after the leaves have fallen and the lymphatic activity has slowed down.

Innanzitutto, occorre tagliare dei rametti dalle piante che si intende moltiplicare. Sono andato qualche giorno fa dai miei genitori e ho tagliato dai loro alberi di cachi, pere, mele, ciliege e infine anche dalla loro siepe di photinia.
Da quei rametti ho tagliato dei segmenti più piccoli - è sufficiente che presentino due gemme - che poi ho immerso in acqua mentre preparavo i vasi e il terriccio.

First, choose the trees you want to propagate and make some cuttings. Few days ago I went by my parents and I took some cuttings from their persimmon, pear, apple, cherry trees and even from their Photinia hedge.
Today I made some shorter cuttings (they need to have two buds) that I soaked into water while I was preparing the pots and the soil.

A questo punto tutto ciò che ci serve saranno: vasetti da piantine, un sottovaso, terriccio, agente radicante e della pellicola trasparente.
La terra ideale sarebbe composto al 50% da torba e al 50% da sabbia. Io non avevo nè l'uno nè l'altro, ma avevo raccolto questa estate del terriccio proveniente dalla decomposizione di foglie e ho usato quello.
L'agente radicante non è necessario: io ho voluto acquistarlo per aumentare le mie possibilità di successo.

Now I took: seedlings pots, soil, a flowerpot dish, rooting powder and some plastic wrap.
The ideal soil would be 50% sand and 50% peat. I didn't have any of them, but I had some topsoil that I collected last summer (mainly from composted leaves) and I used it.
The rooting powder is not necessary, but I decided to buy it to have more chances to succeed.

Dopo aver distribuito il terriccio nei vasi, ho preso ogni rametto e ne ho immerso l'estremità nella polvere radicante. Si scuote un po' il rametto per togliere la polvere in eccesso e si conficca nel terriccio.

After putting the topsoil into the pots, I took every cutting and dip it into the rooting powder. Shake it if there is too much powder and stick it into the soil.

Ora si riempie il sottovaso d'acqua lasciando che i vasetti l'assorbano e si ricopre con la pellicola trasparente, per creare un minimo effetto-serra. Per quattro-cinque mesi si lascia in un luogo luminoso e in primavera dovrebbe aver radicato.
Per tenerlo umido occorre bagnare regolarmente il sottovaso e nebulizzare ogni tanto un po' d'acqua sui rametti.

You now fill the flowerpot dish with water and let the pots absorbe it from below. You can wrap it with some film to create some green-house feeling. You leave it in a place with a good light exposure for four-five months and by spring it should have rooted.
To keep it humid you should water regularly the dish and spray the cuttings from time to time with water.

Oggi ho preparato 50 talee di caco, pero, melo e ciliegio. Se anche solo una parte di esse avrà radicato, in primavera avrò dei piantini che tra tre-quattro anno inizieranno a dare frutto.
Come dice il proverbio: Il momento migliore per piantare un albero era dieci anni fa. Se però non l'hai fatto, il momento migliore è oggi.

Today I prepared 50 cuttings of persimmon, pear, apple and cherry tree. Even if only some of them will root, by spring I'll have some little trees that in three-four years from now will begin to give fruits.
As the proverb says: The best time to plant a tree was ten years ago. But if you didn't, the best time is today.
