Ragtag Garden, Part 14

in #gardening9 years ago

The zucchini plant proves experienced gardeners know what they're talking about.

A few people mentioned that it wasn't unusual for a zucchini to have blooms that would just drop off, producing no squash. They were exactly right. Both blooms that had appeared earlier will not be producing zukes. All of the plants remain healthy and are growing just fine. There are signs of more blossoms to come, so we'll see if they fare a little better.

The tomato is showing subtle color changes that are promising. My challenge with this guy is to keep it well watered. We could use some rain to help on that front.

This pepper plant is going gangbusters. Check out that new pepper up at the top. I wasn't expecting that kind of growth with the cool weather. It's getting plenty of sun, though, so maybe that's enough.

The bean plants are filling out nicely and the vines on the leftmost and middle buckets are almost at the top of the double-decker cages! The rightmost bucket has most of it's growth lower and the vines are just past where the cages meet. I'm curious to see which produces better.

The peas are really gaining some height! The rightmost bucket has the tallest plant, but the others aren't far behind. I took a picture from the back, too, to provide a better view.

The cabbages are doing okay. I see some more earwig damage - mainly in the middle bucket - so it's time for more dusting with Diatomaceous Earth (DE). It's been windy and dry, so the powder is getting blown off the leaves. That's fine - spread it around! I just need to re-apply to the main event.

The brussels sprouts are holding their own against the bugs, too. They've even gained some height, so I'm hopeful they'll come though it just fine.

The peppers look great!

Thanks! They are full of surprises...

Sweet badge Eddie!

The peppers are mild ones, they will grow quickly and you will be pleased, the hot ones take longer.

I grew about 15 varieties over the years, I cannot remember if I told you, my 2 plants with those mile peppers grew yuge numbers, early and stayed late, I hope you get a big crop.

Did my drive by your page for votes, I am still tapped out on power but caught up.

Yeah, he's got some good ones! I'll be if you asked, he could do up one for bushcraft.

Yeah, you did mention you've grown a lot of peppers. Good to know the mild ones are much more productive.

Thanks for the UV, bud! Good to hear your level is recovered.

Your bucket garden is coming along.

Well, those beans sure shot up since the last post of your that I saw. I suspect I may have missed one. That pepper plant sure is doing well, and the peas are growing nicely, better than mine are.
I'd send you some of our rain if I could figure out how to. :-)

They sure have! It may be a tad early, but I'm still looking for blossoms. Oh, and the pepper is fixin' to have a fourth, probably by the weekend. Tough little sprout!

I'll take some of that rain, for sure. I have a bare spot in the front yard & the dirt is starting to show cracks. Not good. We've had some sprinkles, so now it's just a matter of turning up the volume. ;~D

I think we've had rain or drizzle for 7 out of the last 10 days, and the couple of weeks before that weren't much better. June has been an unusually wet month up here in da U.P.

Nice garden! I love gardening, I'm growing lots of good veggies this year.

Thanks! There is a huge gardening/homesteading community here. You'll have a blast and we'd love to follow your garden's progress, too.
