Garden Update: Racoon raid on my corn!
We have not grown corn for about 5 years because of the trouble those little raiders have been in the past.
This year I was trying to grow 3 varieties as an experiment for future feed for the ranch and a little to eat too.
In one night they took out my entire plot of the Pappas Blue corn. This was a meal corn, so I thought it would be relatively safe. But no! They ate everything but 2 partial cobs.
So I decided to try a new setup I made a hot pepper tea with habeneros, Jaleponos and a dash of dish soap. I sprayed a 3 foot swath around the garden and then sprayed the cornstalks.
This has slowed them down but with all the rain we have had I am having a hard time keeping up with spraying .
The rest of the garden is still doing amazing here is a few pictures
Lots of good food!
Use phorate every week, i am sure they will not come back
I have never heard of prorate. I will have to look into that. Is it ok to use in an organic operation?
Yes, PHORATE, it is not consumed by plants but its smell keep Rodents, reptiles, racoons and wild animals away from fields, i will post the image of packing of phorate, may be it have another name where you are residing
Raccoons are the worst. Seems like they can get into anything. I have never tried that kind of spray before. Good idea
Yes we have an over abundance of raccoons in the area right now. This seems to be working but I have to stay constant with my application.
