Start Of The Growing Season 2018

Been one too many years since I’ve done any kind of growing so I thought why not this year is the year I give it a try again. I picked up a starting tray and planted some Parsley, Dill, Cilantro, and Bushing onion.

This sad looking thing I think to use to be a tomato plant or maybe it was green pepper? I don’t have a clue it was not mine and I never did anything other than water it. All I know is it appears depressed. Looks like a fern is growing in it even! Not mine so I’ll just leave it be.

I poured water into the tray overnight a few times. I got to watch these pellets expand and expand till I finally could break them up and they did not feel dry anymore. Looks kind of “odd” in this photo of what is in the tray. I swear its potting soil that came with this kit.

I’ll admit I don’t recall seeds being so fragile when I was a kid. I might have broken a few as I tried to move them from the packaging and into the dirt. I drop a couple in each cell. Least now they are safe from the likes of me. One of them even said to leave in water overnight. Sadly most of those broke might have left them soaking a little too long.

It also has a nice labeled grid. So I’ll know for later A has two rows of parsley, behind that is a row of Dill, followed by some Cilantro for B and D. Finally a row of Bunching onion for row C.

I also picked up some plants as I thought I would give that a try as well. A Jalapeno, red pepper, and a tomato. I did discover I need get some bigger pots to plant them in. What I have appeared to be a little too small. So I gave them a little water to keep the soil moist.

On top of that, it started to rain and thunder so I packed up and headed back inside. Hopefully, in a few months, things will still be alive and I’ll have some kind of update. At the very least in a couple of week’s things should be done germinating and I’ll know then.

This is just a small test for now. I would really love to expand it next year into other things to have more fresh and better choices for eating or things to spice up my food a bit. Some of this stuff will go towards seasoning chicken, making a salsa dip, and some seasoning for fish.

Weekend Check-in On How Things Are Growing

I bought some strawberry plants for my grandson to plant, he loves strawberries....we'll probably just get some small ones this year. I planted them in flower boxes, I seen a article about planting them in aluminium gutters as containers a few years ago so I thought I'd start out small and see what happens first. I bought the containers a couple years ago for fifty cents each on clearance....usually they charge about ten bucks for those size containers. I am also going to try my luck planting a regular tomato plant and heirloom tomato plant in pots this year. I don't need tons of tomato's just for myself or a large garden producing tons of stuff I can't eat by myself.

Very nice find I hope it works out great for growing in! Always so strange what plants prefer to grow in. Don’t think I’ve ever tried to grow strawberries. I’m more or less going be growing out of buckets unless I want risk growing things in the ground for the critters to come and steal.

No catnip?

Haha, nope. No organic catnip.

I should try that, my cats would love me for it. Knowing my luck though I'd attract every cat in the neighborhood...(cats from the hood....lol)

Spring comes a lot earlier for you than some of us :-)

I hope you'll post updated pictures throughout the growing season.

Been a long time since I've seen snow. We tend to stay rather warm here.

I'll be taking a few photos once I do start.
