New apples ... hopefully
Just managed to take a photo of some 'baby' apples growing on a two-year old apple tree. Hopefully this will be a good year to get some apples - last year it was a bit dire.
A bit of a hullabaloo yesterday afternoon when we had a visitor that got a bit trapped in between the dusty window and many boxes.
I took some shaky photos and a bit of a video for evidence... I checked on the net afterwards and this is a European hornet, Vespa crabro.
The most important feature to tell the two types of hornets apart is the marking on their belly (?). The Asian hornet has a wider dark brown stripe.
For me personally and regardless of what type of hornet it is, I would like to know how many there are nearby. It came through the chimney and we must, therefore, be vigilant to check whether or not it was an isolated visitor or it's part of a nest (which would be rather more dangerous to tackle - ych a fi ! ).

Are the hornets quite bad to have around? He looks like a big one!
I hope your apples come to fruition
