In the spirit of "I do the grinding so you don't have to" here are a couple of titles that are worth a closer look. Today we are going to look at a few games "off the beaten path" so to speak. These can all be found on Steam at fairly reasonable prices!

Who knew that pushing a single button over and over again could be this engrossing. The Impossible Game exhibits the "Just one more turn" phenomenom as you will find yourself trying to hit that perfect beat over and over again. The music deserves a special mention, it's pumping and learning the beat and rhythm is an essentially part of the game! Warning, this game truly is difficult.

The natural evolution of the Age of Empires genome. Cossacks 3 offers fun and familiarity to RTS stalwarts along with bigger maps, better tactics and far larger armies. The tried and tested formula works well and lends itself to good multiplayer sessions when it sticks to its guns but overall doesn't do anything groundbreaking or new.

Quirky, sideways, compelling and never boring. The Beginner's Guide is a brief yet fascinating insight into the psychology of game development that explores the mercurial relationship between two friends and their differing game design philosophies meshing humor, narrative and design tropes to achieve something rather distinct. A game that makes you think!

Simple, straight forward and staying true to its title. In Yet Another Zombie Defense You attempt to survive against waves of Undead with a group of up to four players from a retro isometric perspective. You can build static defenses and upgrade your armory with the rewards earned for taking out the walkers. Presentation wise there is not much to garner here, but the good controls and team aspect save this one from being a complete dud. A very common formula but overall this is a fun ride for the occasional 20-30 minute splatter session!

The true spiritual successor to the Baldur's Gate series. If you enjoy classic RPGs and D&D then Divinity: Original Sin II is for lack of a better word: Awesome. For the rest of us it's a solid and very lovingly crafted high fantasy tale that sucks us in not with its game mechanics, but with its clever little details, good controls and engrossing story and characters.
