[Whack Gaming] The KSP Series #4 - The Kerbol System

in #gaming6 years ago

Welcome back to The KSP Series where I am trying to connect 2 communities on STEEM Blockchain, a science and a gaming one. This is the second part of our introduction to systems that Kerbals are living in. We will talk about The Kerbol System, a place where Kerbals never went but are eager to research it and come back in one piece. The motivation is high and our first Whack Space Crew is slowly starting its first missions to research our own planet, Kerbin.

The infrastructure in our Whack Space Center is close to having a green light from our safety crew. So far, initial testings were fine and the only thing we're waiting for is the paperwork. Since they will probably pass the tests, Kerbals are getting ready for their missions in their mission quarters. They were already introduced to their first rocket and are given time to prepare for the missions accordingly. The whole Kerbal race depends on them, what will they find and will they be an interstellar race depends only on them. Be sure to follow their adventures every Thursday on STEEM Blockchain!

THE KERBOL SYSTEM

Combine Kerbal and Sol and you get The Kerbol System, an untouched and undiscovered corner of Kerbal's Cosmos. As long as we know now, this is our final place to be discovered. Enriched with 5 planets and 2 dwarf ones, this system is a surprise mystery chest and will surely be amazing to see what it offers in terms of scientific research and discoveries. The missions in the Kerbin system will depend on the missions on the Kerbol system and it will be amazing to see how Kerbals will work that out.

The Sun, Kerbol, is the most well-known object during the daytime. It was tough for some Kerbals to test its capability in the old days but now they know, don't stare at Sun for too long, you might lose your vision. The only research that they could do, they did even though some of them lose their sight permanently. For Mynka and Tirion Kerman, researching the Kerbol system will mean a lot since they were the only ones to lose their vision after testing how long can you look at the Sun.

Nevertheless, other Kerbals are ready to venture our Cosmos. They accepted their faith and a big possibility of failure and losing their lives. For Kerbals, scientific research means more than their own life.

KERBOL

Screenshot_30.png

The only object in Kerbals cosmos on which you can't land. The shiniest object that gives energy to its system is still looked at in disguise by Kerbals because of that fact. As I already said, Kerbals value scientific research more than life so they cannot go over the fact that they cannot research the sun fully, even though it gives them life and they understand that already.

Some of them don't accept that fact and are eager to try to land. Whack Space Center still didn't give a green light to this mission but there's a big probability that they will do it after they research their planet good enough.

MOHO

Screenshot_6.png

Moho is the smallest and fastest orbiting planet in the Kerbol system. In Kerbal mythology, this is a fiery planet full of volcanoes and flowing lava. Since it's closest to the Sun and probably Kerbals can't land on it, this planet might be the last object to research. Kerbals are aware that ideas need to be backed up with technology and current lack of technology is why this planet is in the last place to be researched.

Physical Characteristics
Eq. Radius - 250 km
Area - 7.854E+11 m2

EVE

Screenshot_1.png

With it's extremely thick and dense atmosphere, this planet will be really a tough challenge for any Kerbals to accomplish. This is the second planet from our Sun and the closest to our only current home, planet Kerbin. Eve is one of the most visible objects mainly due to its purple tint. It was believed that this is the sister planet to Kerbin until Kerbals discovered small satellite near planet Jool. The surface of Eve is covered with craters and the largest mountain has a peak of 7526m. Eve has one small moon, named Gilly. Orbiting around Eve, it is the smallest satellite found so far.

Rotation Period - 3d 4h 21min

Atmospheric Characteristics

DUNA

Screenshot_7.png

Duna is the Mars analogue in this game. It is the fourth planet from Kerbol, covered with red-brownish surface and polar ice caps. This will be the first planet to go to because the inclination is similar to our planet so it will be easy for Kerbals to go there. Not easy, but easier. With its 14 biomes, Midlands sea is the greatest one that spans half the planet.

Before discovering Lythe with an amateur telescope, Kerbals thought that Duna was the planet they lived before. Soily and with polar caps it must have tickled the imagination of every Kerbal but today, it is just as a planet as any other, it's lifeless.Duna has one small natural satellite orbiting it, called Ike. It's extremely rocky and it is similar to our Mun.

DRES

Screenshot_14.png

Officially labeled as ''Not to be trusted'' by Kerbal scientist, Dres is small planet once considered to be a dwarf. Since it was hiding from scientists for a long time due to an irregularity of its orbit, it is discovered a bit late and now it must yet to be researched to the point that Kerbals can start to plan some missions. Nevertheless, Kerbals will go there and try to gain some knowledge and hopefully come back to Whack Space Center with scientific data.

Physical Characteristics
Eq. Radius - 138 km
Area - 2.393E+11 m2
Mass - 3.219E+20 kg
ASL Gravity - 0.11504 g
Escape Velocity - 538.0 m/s
Rotation Period - 1d 3h 40min

Atmospheric Characteristics

JOOL

Screenshot_17.png

One of the most interesting planets in the Kerbol system is Jool. With its 5 five moons, it is surely a destination every Kerbal want to go. What's more interesting is, Jool has a moon that was our home before we mysteriously moved to Kerbin. It is a gassy planet and a sixth one in the Kerbol system. Kerbals believe that green gas must be the reason of their skin color and why it's so fuzzy when you look at it through the telescope.

Moon Laythe is covered with vast oceans called the Sagen Sea and DeGrasse Sea, named after scientist Carl Sagan and Neil DeGrasse Tyson. Once home to our Kerbals, it is surely the place they want to have the base once again and try to find out what really happened there.

Physical Characteristics
Eq. Radius - 6.000 km
Area - 4.524E+14 m2
Mass - 4.233E+24 kg
ASL Gravity - 0.80027 g

Rotation Period - 1d 4h 0min

Atmospheric Characteristics
Atmosphere Present - Yes
Atmo. height - 200,000 m
Atmo. Pressure - 15 atm

EELOO

Screenshot_21.png

Lump of ice? or a planet?, this was a tough question to be answered for any Kerbal and the debate is still ongoing since it's very hard to determine it due to the size of Eeloo. It is the farthest planet in the Kerbol system and it even intersects Jools orbit. This is why Kerbals are planning to head there and see how objects react when they are that close. The surface of Eeloo is covered with smooth ice with only a few craters. The brownish rock below its surface is waiting to be researched by Kerbals and it's believed that it might potentially harbor water.

Physical Characteristics
Eq. Radius - 210 km
Area - 5.542E+11 m2
Mass - 1.115E+21 kg
ASL Gravity - 0.17206 g
Escape Velocity - 841.8 m/s
Rotation Period - 5h 24min 20sec

Atmospheric Characteristics
Atmosphere Present - No

While we're waiting for the first mission to start, Kerbals are preparing everything in their power to make it happen. Thanks to the telescopes, they were able to realize how big their cosmic home is. Now it's time to visit it and hopefully and finally find their roots. It is in every Kerbal dream to know where they came from and what happened to Laythe. Finally, after a long period of building Whack Space Station, it's time to start living the dream.
