CSGO Off-Season Changes: Optic Moving to Europe?

in #gaming7 years ago

Those of us following the off-season roster shuffles among the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive scene have been in for a wild ride. Technically, some changes came in before the season "officially" ended, but we've seen, among others: friburg kicked from NiP, allu replaced by GuardiaN in FaZe, Zeus leaving Gambit to rejoin Na'Vi, and RUSH and tarik joining Cloud9! But perhaps one of the most interesting developments within the North American scene is what is going on within the Optic camp.

Optic's CSGO Team's Future Uncertain

After losing in-game leader stanislaw earlier this year, Optic trialled both hazed and JasonR before deciding that neither player was a good fit. This lack of stability was apparently part of the reason why RUSH and tarik left to join rival North American side Cloud9. With Naf-fly's future up in the air, that leaves just Mixwell as the only Optic player who's future with the organization hasn't been called into question. You wouldn't be remiss questioning even his status with the organization, as, according to HLTV.org, the Spanish player has expressed a desire to move back to Europe.

A flickshot.fr article might seem to suggest that a new Optic lineup would consist of:

Oscar "mixwell" Cañellas
Adam "friberg" Friberg
Aleksi "allu" Jalli
Emil "Magisk" Reif
Kevin "HS" Tarn

This is jaw-dropping news. Not the least of which because, for the first time since its inception, the US-based Optic's CSGO team would consist entirely of European players. Moreover, every player in that list is from a different country; in addition to Mixwell, friburg is from Sweden, allu is Finnish, Magisk is Danish, and HS is from Estonia. With the exception of recent upset winners Gambit (who were all from the CIS region and spoke Russian), every single Major champion has consisted entirely of players from the same country and in fact, 7 out of the top 10 ranked teams according to HLTV are "pure" squads in that sense. As such, it has yet to be proven that a mixed squad can consistently perform at the highest level, which is certainly expected of Optic from its large fan-base.

The pressure is on for Optic, who haven't won on LAN since November of last year.

Who do you think will make up the new lineup? Feel free to comment below

Not sure who will make the new line up, but looking forward to it!
