Steem Monsters Basic Strategy Guide: Six huge tips to help you rank up and get more free cards!

in #gaming5 years ago (edited)

I went from struggling in bronze level 3 and getting knocked out of tournaments first round to silver 2 and holding my own in tourney play. Follow these easy steps for a much smoother path and a lot more wins!

TIP 1
The thing every noob should do first is open a new tab and go to the Steem Monsters how to play and read it a couple of times, common scenes right? Well the actual tip is leave it open and use it as a reference especially when it comes to abilities. This will tie in with the next tip.

*you must open it in a different browser or a different website because the site runs in real time so what you see on one tab will be on all tabs in the same browser so you can't look at enemies load outs and how to play at the same time

Tip 2
So this is a must and might be the best tip, right before every match starts you can see what your opponent picked in his previous 5 matches. The splinter/class along with individual cards they used. More often than not they use the same or a similar load out. This will give you the information you need to set up your team.

Tip 3
I actually look at my opponents previous load outs and then I click my opponents go to splinter and look at the cards abilities. Then I can choose my team accordingly. IF your opponent uses a lot of magic then don't go heavy shield because magic takes away heath and shield dose not matter. There are many things like this that you need to know.

Tip 4
Take your time. You have 2 minutes so use it. Plan your damage, speed, boost, and abilities with in your games mana coast. Have a plan, do you want focus fire on the tank? Do you want to ware down your enemy with heals and high health? Do you want to roll the dice and see if the retaliate ability will lead you to a W. Have a plan for different match types and mana levels. Watch your matches and know how and why you are winning or losing . I always watch my matches until I can tell who will win and some times I'm wrong so I go back and watch it again to see if it was bad luck or well planned.

TIP5:
positioning of cards is as important as the cards you pick. You need to know where to but what card and it changes with the different match rule variations. Here are a couple examples. range cards can't attack from the front position and melee cards cant attack from back positions unless they have certain abilities. But putting a melee high health healer in the last position to absorb sneak attacks could be a good strategy.

TIP 6:
The last tip works well when it works lol. If you want to try out new builds without falling down in ranks or even better yet if you have almost leveled up to the next league and don't want to leave it to chance, jump over to practice mode. If you lose you don't drop in rank or league so you can be more risky and fine tune your build and when you have it just right jump back in and grab a couple more wins to jump to into the higher league. Just entering the league even for just one game will earn you that leagues free card amount at the end of the two week season.

*at the moment practice mode dose not match you up with well balanced matches. It takes a few matches to get someone decent to play against, this get frustrating .

A few quick tips

*the faster the cards speed the higher chance of a miss to the card.

  • Do the daily quest not only will you receive a free card it will also allow you to get you familiar other splinters and cards because with different match types it limit abilities and even splinters.

*copy what keeps beating you. It's smart not cheap.

*have fun and enjoy, if you get frustrated walk away for a little while.

*wash your hands after using the bathroom

Gotta love the last tip. Definitely a must! I still watch all my games and I’ve played plenty by now. That’s the only way to learn. Welcome to SM (soon to be Solinterlands) and have fun. 🙂
