Games You MUST Play In October 2018 - Gaming Top 5 - Part 90.steemCreated with Sketch.

With some huge titles coming, October is gonna be awesome for new game releases.

Its that time of the month again where I take at look at some of the best upcoming games you need to look out for and to play in October. As technology moves on, and with the recent release of the new RTX Ray Tracing cards from Nvidia. We can expect to see some of the best graphically looking games in the very near future, but for now, lets see what's happening in October.

5 – Call of Cthulhu

October 30.
PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

  • If you are a fan of puzzle games with a hint of horror induced atmosphere, similar to the Resident Evil franchise. Then this is a game you need to invest some money and time into.
This first person perspective game is based on the story and the pen and paper game and is pegged to be a very accurate representation. The Devs are calling this game a 'Semi open world' which I would assume means that it will be a very linear narrative just like the book, but can be manipulated like you find in the game..... think Resident Evil 1's mansion, which in itself is a Semi Open world.
The graphics are lush, despite the dark colour pallet and if it is anything like the book, it will be fantastic to play it through. There are also rumours that there will be a future patch so it can take advantage of the new RTX Nvidia cards, making it look all the more awesome.

4 – World War 3

October 19.
PC Only

  • There is only a small handful of 'First Person Shooter' games that I like as some of you know. So for me to include one in a list such as this, you can be rest assured that there is something special about this game.
You can see hints of other games in this title with Call of Duty, Medal of Honour and such, but there is so much more to this game than meets the eye.
The game is based in the near future and it is an online multiplayer as you would expect, but you are not limited to just controlling a dude running round killing another dude. There is a vast array of weaponry available with all sorts of accessories. You can take control of a wide selection of vehicles such as various tanks, transporters, fighter jets, bombers, remote control bomb car, toy, things? and even some stealth tech in there for good measure. Add all this up with some amazing visuals and mechanics and you have a game that you can immerse yourself in for hours playing alongside your friends.

3 – Assassins Creed Odyssey

October 5.
PS4, Xbox One, Switch and PC

  • As some of you may know, those who follow the TechMojo live streams that is, that I have invested a lot of time in the pre cursor game to this, Assassins Creed Origins and even though I gave the game a fairly average score when I reviewed it, I hope that the devs have taken what they learned from that game and improved on it in this one. I say this because both Origins and Odyssey started development at the same time and they even share some of the same game mechanics, assets and visuals, but Odyssey has been in development for almost a full year more, being tweaked in response to the community of the origins game.
This game is split into 2, mainly you can either fight on the side of Athens or the Romans in a war between each other. This would mean that the devs have had to work on 2 timeline narratives both in the past and present. So it would be good to see how they have interlocked the 2 together within the narrative.
As per Origins, the visuals are amazing for the most part. Obviously there are some things about origins that I didn't like, but without playing this one, I can only speculate that the devs may have improved it where I believe it needed improving. If the trailers are anything to go by, then it is gonna be an awesome game all round. Lets just hope that extra time spent in development has paid off.

2 – Soul Calibur 6

October 19.
PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

  • Soul Calibur in general is a long standing franchise that has a very strong fan base behind it, and is probably one of the reasons why we are getting a sixth instalment of the game that the devs are saying is more of a soft reboot of the whole franchise.
The reboot side is from the game revisiting the first games story and characters within, reviling some details that never got an answer to in the first place, but was just speculated by said fan base.
Having read a through a few forums and blogs, it is fair to say that after the last 2 games that were seen more of a cash grab, one of the reasons why they didn't do so great, they are now taking everything back to its roots by basing the game of the first but with that modern touch in visuals, narrative and gameplay, and I will say that the visuals are the elephants testicular fortitude. I can not wait to get my hands on this game in particular this month.

1 – Red Dead Redemption 2!

October 26.
PS4 and Xbox One

  • Rockstar games is by far one of the best dev companies to date, and have given us some of the best games of the past 20 years. Now there crowning achievement is about to land and it looks as though it will deliver and then some.
The first game was a masterpiece by itself and originally never intended to have a sequel, but the success of the game and how well received it was... it was only a matter of time before we got a follow up game.
The game looks stunning and is by far one of the top 3 best looking games, visually that I have ever seen. Animations are buttery smooth, graphical fidelity is insanely good and if the visuals are anything to go by, the narrative and voice acting will be fucking fantastic.
Just think GTA in the wild west, but with much more realistic visuals. There is a good chance that the game will eventually appear on PC, and originally it was supposed to. But I suspect that the PC version is delayed because of the release of the RTX cards from Nvidia, and Rockstar want to improve the games visuals even more by introducing Ray Tracing into the mix, which will undoubtedly make the game even more immersive and visually spectacular.

There are some fantastic titles coming in October, all of which will entertain you for endless hours. It is just a crying shame that there are not enough hours in the day to enjoy all of them. In particular I want to make sure I have a copy of Assassins Creed Odyssey, Call of Cthulhu and Soul Calibur 6 in my Steam / Origin libraries. And I will try my hardest to get them on a live stream and eventually reviewed to see if my predictions were correct.

What games are you looking forward too next month?

An impressive line up for October, we are still getting through the new Spiderman game for PS4 - stunning graphics and gameplay, really impressed although currently stuck where Doc Ock releases all the bad guys.

I still haven't played it.... kids hogging the console.

Hey @techmojo, thank you for the review, my son is also a computer games fan, last couple of years in his school they have computer programming classes and of course they visited the Dundee Institute of Technology that is a birth place of Rockstar Games, therefore he knows very well that game and according him that is the best ( of course I understand that he likes it) . As to me of course I am not really playing games but reading through I thought may be really Red Dead Redemption 2 would be my favorite because the character looks like Indiana Jones and I love that movie, may be because I was grown up with that.

But was really nice to read your opinion and thoughts :)

cheers, for the kind words... really appreciate it!

I have really high hopes for Red dead 2 and also Soul Calibur 6! Also great post my dude!

cheers dude.

Forza Horizon 4 would be #2 on my list. It is now the benchmark for open world design that #1 (which I agree with) has to beat.

i would kind of agree to a point. but the reason i didn't include it in this list, is that because driving sim games are always hit and miss. this version is based of motorsport 7 forzatechs engine but with some tweaked graphics and new mechanics. all of which have been seen countless times in racing sims, The Crew 1/2, F1 2017/2018, project cars, hell even the Need for Speed games..... what i'm saying is, they are all just a slight variation of the same theme, with dreadful Ai, and imho, they get boring very quickly. for a game that is as close to apples to apples as you can get, i believe that game is F1 2018.

I couldn't disagree more, this is absolutely nothing like Motorsport 7 or F1 2018. The only superficial similarity is that it uses the same engine and there are cars, but that's like saying Battlefield is like FIFA. I wish people would stop dismissing Forza Horizon 4 as "just a driving game" and see that's it's a landmark for the gaming industry. It has the finest open world ever committed to a game. The detail is absolutely unprecedented, and the seasons really do change everything. The moment you come to grasp with the incredible world, and the season changes, and you have to experience it all over again. But there's more, it sets a new high bar for graphics tech. The global illumination system is one of the best ever, up there with Quantum Break and Hunt: Showdown. Once you see headlights casting shadows, it's impossible to go back to any other game with driving involved; the subtle bounce of the taillights, the incredible diffused reflections of icy surface, highly detailed parallax occlusion maps on the dirt terrain, etc. etc. And what is totally bonkers is that Edinburgh has hundreds, if not thousands, of buildings and each one has interiors distinctly modeled. You can peer in from the windows and see inside! I mean, not even the drone can get high up to the 4th floor of a building, but you sure can see the fancy painting and the vintage chandelier. Spider-Man's New York was superb just last week, but Forza Horizon 4's Britain makes it look like a last-generation game. This is the new benchmark for open world design, and Red Dead Redemption 2 has a lofty target to overhaul.

But there's innovation wherever you see - the humour and references to classic British comedies, the brilliant Horizon Stories, being the first game that has truly nailed a persistent, shared open world, the co-operative gameplay that removes friction from multiplayer etc.

Forza Horizon 4 is absolutely one of the finest games ever made.

I can understand your enthusiasm for the game, but after playing at E3, and the past couple of days on the kids xbox. i fail to see the graphical fidelity that can not be found in countless other games. sure there are some truly awesome mechanics, within how the cars interact with the environment, but seasons is nothing new and can be dated as far back in games as pokomon black and white, Zelda oracle of seasons. even sim city on the snes. yes i know they are not driving games, but the premise is nothing new.
The first Crew game made use of the same mechanics, travel north, the icy roads made it difficult to race on, when it rained, traction was difficult, when it was hot, driving conditions were perfect, and then the different terrains, salt flats, woods, long grass, mud, all changed the characteristics of the driving.
I do however love the fact that the game is based in the UK, where the weather can and does change very quickly (as seen in the game).
It is a good all round game, it has taken multiple ideas from elsewhere and melded it together. but graphically it is nothing special, mechanics used are re-used and re-worked, many assets found in motorsport 7 can be found in horizon 4, the AI is still as shit as ever, (same for all racing games).... its just another twist on the same theme.
I stand by my statement that F1 2018 is as close to apples to apples racing sim available which is about on par with visuals to horizon 4. what i hate about most games with cars is, you can drive into a lamp post and stop dead with next to no car damage, or/sometimes in the same game, you can hit a traffic light and drive straight through it, again with next to no damage. while railings, that are not fixed to the ground are indestructible. they want to make a realistic driving sim, but will ignore practical physics. that is why i prefer F1 2017/18... there is no BS.
and if you want graphical fidelity, take a look at star citizen and the Last of Us 2, which coincidentally, adopts a season/weather type mechanic that affect playability

You can see hints of other games in this title with Call of Duty, Medal of Honour.

One of my favorite shooters going back over the years. I do like my COD as well though. Fan of assassins creed so might check it out but at the moment im addicted to my rocket league. So simple and yet i never get bored of it, the sign of a great game. I know my friend has ordered Red Dead Redemption 2 so if he likes it i might add it to the list. I never played the first one so not really sure if its what i like or not.
