Monday Memories 2# - The Commodore 64

in #gaming7 years ago

The Commodore 64 was an 8-bit computer for home use released in 1982. It was an extremely popular computer, selling roughly 15 million units over it's lifetime.

The 64 in the name comes from the 64 bytes of RAM the computer had.

Compared with other computers at the time such as the Apple II and the Atari 800 the graphics and sound on the commodore 64 were far superior.

The CPU was a mighty 1.023 MHz if you had the the NTSC version.

The 64 would of cost you $595 back in 1982.

A few games available at the time were:

The Great Giana Sisters

This game was released in 1987 by Time Warp Productions. The game was so similar to Super Mario brothers on the Nintendo it had to be removed from sale after a very short time. Making is a collectors item.

If you have played Mario then I don't need to describe the gameplay for The Great Giana Sisters. It was basically the exact same. 😂

The Last Ninja

The Last Ninja was released in 1987 and went on to become one of the most popular games on the commodore 64

The story of the game sees you travel to Kunitoki's palace in order to assassinate him and avenge your clan. Kunitoki was an evil Shogun who is also in possession of the sacred scrolls you must retrieve.

The game was a mix of both combat and puzzle solving which gave it a unique twist compared to other games of it's time.

Fast Food

Fast Food was one of my favourite 64 games. It was basically Pac-Man but instead of collecting pills you had to chase after "fast food" which moves about all over the level whilst avoiding the enemies (Like Pac-Man ghosts).

Your character was…..An egg named Dizzy.

Did anyone have a Commodore 64 or play any of the above games?

I never had a chance to use a C64, but people I know who did have one had some really fond memories of the thing. I always wanted to play The Last Ninja, so I'll have to settle for the NES port.

It was the first computer I ever owed. I remember being blown away by the graphics, how far we've come haha.

I remember Fast Food. Great Giana sisters. Can't believe I never heard about that. Seems like every child from the 80s would have to know that story.

Fast good was a great game, apparently the people who made it had a working copy made in 2 days. It's normally the simple games that turn out the best. Thanks for the comment.
