Princess Huhuran – Temple of Ahn’Qiraj Boss Strategy Guide

in #gaming7 years ago

This is a World of Warcraft classic guide for Princess Huhuran who is the fourth non-optional boss in the 40-man raid, The Temple of Ahn’Qiraj (AQ40).

Overview

It’s strange how a poison spitting green wasp looking silithid bug can be titled Princess Huhuran so gracefully, but this is a make-believe world so let’s just go with it.

After defeating Fankriss the raid will have to clear several packs of trash to reach Huhuran’s chamber which will take anywhere between 15-30 minutes. They are quite easy so I won’t go into detail on the trash.

This encounter is mostly about pre-raid preparation, ability timing and performance under pressure. When done right this is a predictable and easy fight. It is often said that the trash after Huhuran is harder.

Nature Resistance Gear

To deal with phase 2 of the fight, 16-17 people will need nature resist sets. Usually this is the Warriors, Rogues and Hunters.

The ideal amount of nature resist each person should be aiming for is 200 unbuffed. This gear will also be needed to fight Viscidus, which is one of the optional bosses in AQ40.

Acquiring nature resist sets takes some time and should be planned well in advance to this fight.

Abilities

Princess Huhuran is Immune to taunt.

Frenzy - Huhuran turns red and increases in size, greatly increasing her melee damage. This will need to be dealt with by Hunters with tranquilising shot.

Berserk – When Huhuran reaches 30% she will go Berserk, this will double her attack speed increase her damage to the point where she will 2-3 shot tanks.

Poison Bolt – Fires a poison projectile at the closest 15 people for 2000 nature damage. Huhuran casts this every two seconds when she is in Frenzy or Berserk. Does not target pets.

Noxious Poison – Deals 3000 nature damage over 8 seconds and inflicts Silence. This will target a random person and also simultaneously hit anyone within 5-7 yards of that person.

Wyvern Sting - Puts the target to sleep. Deals 3000 nature damage if cleansed. Effects 10 random targets within melee range. Also targets pets.

Acid Spit – Deals around 220-280 nature damage every 2 seconds to Huhuran’s aggro target. This effect is stackable, non-resistible and is applied close to every 15 seconds.

Positioning

The ranged dps and healers should position themselves in a semi-circle behind the boss ensuring that the 16-17 people who are wearing nature resist gear are the closest to the boss. Each person should be standing 5-7 yards apart.

Tanks can stand together at the front of the boss, most guilds run 2 tanks for this fight. Melee dps will take up normal positions behind the boss.

It would be smart to practice your positioning as a raid in the room before Huhuran’s chamber.

Phase 1

Initially everyone needs to establish their positions and take a moment to ensure that all the nature damage soakers are closest to the boss and the healers are all in range of them. Ranged need to ensure they are spread out adequately so that only one person gets hit by Noxious Poison at a time.

Both tanks need to simultaneously build threat while the entire raid gradually brings the boss down whilst staying well underneath both tanks on the threat meters. Wyvern sting needs to be cleansed immediately from tanks only.

Healers should save at least 70% of their mana and dps classes need to save all their cooldowns and trinkets for 30% which marks the start of phase 2.

Phase 2

Huhuran will go Berserk inflicting massive amounts of damage to the tank and spitting poison bolts at the 15 closest targets.
The tank that currently has aggro needs to use shield wall followed by last stand/lifegiving gem and any other survivability cool downs. If he dies the second tank will need to do the same.

The closest 15 people who are soaking the poison bolt damage will need to do their best to stay alive by drinking greater nature protection potions when they are low hp as well as using a healthstone.

Healers will need to be spamming the soakers with heals and it helps to have priests in the same groups to utilise prayer of healing.

The aim is to kill the boss before your tanks die because the raid will die very quickly thereafter and it will be a wipe.

Notes

  • As the boss is immune to taunt, any pull of aggro will greatly inconvenience the raid and most likely lead to a wipe.
  • Make sure tanks have shield wall available going into the fight. It’s a 30 minute cooldown.
  • Hunters should be utilised for their nature resistance aura. Shamans can be used for nature resist totem (in place of windfury).
  • Tanks will need to announce when their shield wall is ending so that healers can anticipate increased damage and the next tank can be ready to activate his shield wall.
  • Pets can be used to eat wyvern sting in phase 1 however poison bolt will not target them in phase 2.
  • Nature protection potions should be taken before the fight by the entire raid to offset a lot of the damage and provide another damage barrier should the poison bolt soakers start to die prematurely.

Done.
