in #gaming6 years ago

Today we are going to look into one of the best arcades of all time and at the time of the most advanced and revolutionary games because of its motion capture technique and gore. Today we are looking into Mortal Kombat for the arcade, released by Midway in 1992.

Some footage of my gameplay

Plot
Like any other fighting game, the plot of this game revolves around a tournament. This tournament is being fought at Earthrealm in an island that belongs to Shang Tsung in a stage you can actually see him in the background. Every character has its own background which is explained in the introduction if you wait long enough.

Graphics
The digitalized graphics of the game are so realistic that at the time was thought to be too realistic of a game with that much violence into it. So, yeah I'm going to say graphics are pretty good. Although backgrounds seem to be pretty cartoonish.

Sounds
I'm going to start with sound effects this time, which are pretty good and not at all annoying, characters like Scorpion has digitalized voices with good quality. As for the music, is good but not great, I found it to be pretty forgettable and kind of annoying in some stages since it looped indefinitely.

Gameplay
Here is where this game excels, there are 5 buttons in the game which are for high/low kick or punch and one to block. You have to do combinations of these along with moving, forward, back, up or down; to do special moves which range from throwing energy, freezing them or pulling your opponents to you. You both get a health bar that decreases with every hit and when it depletes the round ends, whoever wins the 2 out of 3 rounds is the victor and will get to have a last free shot with a voice saying "Finish him" prompting it, if you do the right combination of buttons you will perform special moves that are called fatalities and the voice will then say "Fatality".

The game is pretty fun and I urge to play the original Mortal Kombat and see for yourself, there are versions for the Genesis and the SNES, so options are plentiful, if you don't mind the cheesy hyper-violence, it is a super fun and challenging game.

People went nuts about this game. The graphics are and always were terrible though, heh. Watching the insane cycles people do when you aren't controlling them is pretty hilarious though

I'm pretty bad at it lol, but my thumb became all black :P

Never really played it as an actual arcade, but I guess it's the same as version as you would have on a NES, isn't it?

SNES and kind of, in the Nintendo version there isn't blood unless you put into an special code, graphics are better in the arcade and it is much confortable with a joystick that a directional pad to play it I think.
