Wolfenstein 2: The New Colusus Review - Rare good game

Do not be afraid that Wolfenstein 2: The New Colussus is just popping, this game is so much more than that. On many levels you do not expect Wolfenstein 2 draft. In the nuclear submarine that acts as a hub, you can do a lot of entertainment for dozens of minutes. Then listen to the conversations between teammates. Whether you go outside in the gaming world looking for lore that has been processed into posters, calendars, tickets or audio recordings. There are more than you want to count.

The undersigned is not a fan of loose lore. But America who was taken by Nazis in Wolfenstein 2 comes to life in such details. These are the Nazi flags, the propaganda flyers, the German country songs on the radio and the street conversations that pour a completely unbelievable scenario into a completely credible game world. In particular, the acting in Wolfenstein 2 excels. The facial animations may be a bit tricky, but at the mercy of Frau Engel, what is going on in Wolfenstein 2?

Chief character BJ Blazkowicz not only gets content thanks to the inner dialogue he carries as he chases Nazi over the kling. You also dive in his past, in relation to his parents, for example.

Wolfenstein 2 does not hurt a difficult subject. The position of black women passes by, the influence of the father figure passes by, the resilience of pregnant women. And such subjects are not even expressed in a piece of dialogue or crammed in a minute clip. No, Wolfenstein 2 just accelerates the accelerator pedal at such moments.

The result is clear: you are about the people you play and giving work to. You are going to abhor Nazis like Frau Engel and your father. The moments of setting up, story and action are therefore the best. At the beginning, you may think: wow, I can shoot Nazi from a wheelchair, but soon you find out that this particular playful scenario is just the tip of the iceberg.

Wolfenstein 2 is incredibly over-the-top, but never in a bad way. It always finds new settings or mechanics to keep the gameplay fresh and send the story an unexpected direction. But above all you know how to give a feeling of intense happiness again and again.

The best shooting game

The action alone is already in progress. MachineGames delivers the best shooting game of this console generation with Wolfenstein 2: The New Colusus. You already feel that after a minute of play. It's a hard to explain feeling, but Wolfenstein 2 feels so much better than showing trailers. Maybe it's that nice ragdoll physics. Nazi's vibrate and punch at every bullet she watches.

That is so important in a single-player game, where punching on these Nazis is the main activity. The shooting does not bother, even after 20 hours. With a machine gun in every hand - no extraordinary 'tactical' setup in Wolfenstein 2 - stack your dead nazi with great pleasure up to the ceiling. By no means is that exaggerated: all appearances remain, physics do the rest of the work.

In order to realize that, you have a small but well-measured arsenal of weapons that can be upgraded with kits that are hidden in the corners of the levels. Also those upgrades are not numerous, but they really add something. One of the first upgrades you want is the silencer for your gun and machine gun. Sluipen, like Wolfenstein: The New Order (2014), is an integral part of the gameplay.

The segments that can be demolished show a radar at the top of the screen with the command of the commanders. If you know to disable them, you can prevent reinforcement from Nazi or giant (mechanical) derivatives. Without a silencer, you only have fun attacks to kill enemies, but it's us without damper but once managed to get out of sight and unheard of a segment in the levels. But even with silencers on your favor it is quite difficult.

Fortunately, the stealth later in the game is also easier thanks to new equipment. You get the choice of three pieces of technology, including stilts that act as double jump, to reach higher platforms, and a torso armor, which is handy for maneuvering through narrow passages. In practice, the gear is especially an enrichment for your tactics. This way you can create an unprecedented overview by stopping or crawling under a car to stay out of sight.

That does not mean that Wolfenstein does not provide you with important choices. At the beginning of the game, you determine, for example, what timeline you are going through by choosing which of your two buddies make you live, exactly as in Wolfenstein: The New Order. That choice, which we will not explain further for spoilers, actually results in other cut scenes, events while playing and even many other dialogues. It makes a second play though very appealing.

Almost faultless

Wolfenstein 2 may feel good at getting old school with picking up of health and ammunition, but it's a crime to keep on a controller with your right hand from the right-hand pole to get something done on the PlayStation 4 . It causes you to run like an idiot across walls and like a malle on that square to tackle everything. The game also does not allow you to adjust the layout of the controls on the controller, you should turn the buttons yourself within the settings of your PlayStation 4 or Xbox One.

Furthermore, Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus is a virtually flawless game. Expectations were already high but surpassed. Both in story, moralism, gameplay, game world and technical finish.

Conclusion

Not only does BJ Blazkowicz realize that Nazi's are a fantastic activity. The main character in this part shows above all that Wolfenstein is more than murder and killing. A game world, a variety of cast and an abundance of bizarre scenarios that make almost all levels a party; Wolfenstein 2 is an action game in heart, but with this we lack so many other qualities of this game.
