Assassin's Creed Origins Review - Nothing is more true, everything is allowed

in #gaming7 years ago (edited)

What if Assassin's Creed would have existed since 2017? What if Assassin's Creed would have been made in a world where The Witcher 3, Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Metal Gear Solid 5 and Horizon have already pushed the game industry in their own way? What if Assassin's Creed would start at the beginning? Well, then you will get Assassin's Creed Origins.

Assassin's Creed Origins is really a new chapter in the series. It leaves behind many dogmas behind the mind and puts a new, fresh, but above all, a very nice experience. Ironically, it's just the dogmas that do not let the game behind, which are still being dragged into this whole new world.

Bayek, Medjay van Siwa

The main role is in this part for Bayek, a Medjay, a kind of patron. As a result of a group of masked men, he loses his son. "Already a revenge story because of a dead relative?", I am already kidding you. Yes, but wait for your judgment. Bayek has much more to offer than blind anger. Bayek is not consumed by revenge, like Ratonhnhaké: ton that was, but looking for justice. Meanwhile, he feels called Medjay to help everyone while maintaining another atypical relationship with his wife Aya, who deserves even the same amount of praise for her share in the story as co-assassin. Bayek is someone i snap. He reminds me of Ezio and Kenway. In short, Bayek is a good pear.

Bayek lives in Egypt about 49 BC. A time before the Assassins and the Templars. An unbelievably interesting period in which a war between Greece-supported Pharaoh Ptolemy and his sister Cleopatra, who is an alliance with Julius Caesar, is about to break out. Assassin's Creed would not be Assassin's Creed if you do not get a big share in this piece of history, but in addition, this period also makes the game world particularly interesting, as the traces of the Egyptians, Greeks and Romans are clearly visible.

<3 Egypt

The Egypt we explore is really gigantic and every area is equally interesting and interesting. The desolate desert where you start forms a huge contrast with the green, lush Nijldelta in the east. Cities like Memphis and Crocodilopolis really have an Egyptian atmosphere, while Alexandria is especially Greek and Cyrene is a real Roman city, with giant temples and a colosseum. But in many areas, the different influences go hand in hand, making it a party for anyone with a bit of fascination for history to look around in the cities. Do not forget, however, that most pyramids are already so sloppy 2500 years old and thus have long become dusty graft bombs. In short, there is a lot to discover in Egypt.

Assassin's Creed Origins is therefore a lot more to discover than its predecessors. This game does not play in a big city, which only constitutes a decor in which you hide in pits, on benches or in the middle of a group of prostitutes. Running over roofs is therefore only a matter of fact and exploring the map through syncpoints is past time. Where Assassin's Creed used to make you miss out on lists of missions, collectibles and syncpoints, Egypt is really an open world where the adventure is waiting for you.

Those adventures can be quests in which you chase on your son's assassins or help the people of Egypt with their everyday problems, ranging from extortion by Greek soldiers or abduction, to re-unleashed crocodiles or even battling sea battles. Nice detail is that many missions somehow catch up on the main story, and therefore feel less generic. An adventure can also be exploring a graft mover, or hunting on the local animals for skins that will improve your own equipment. Or just explore that one pyramid on the horizon, explore that untouched land in a corner of the map, or see if you can tame a cat.

Play free play? Photos out!
Assassin's Creed Origins is a beautiful game and the photo mode will be used gratifyingly. But beware: Photos of other players appear automatically on your card and can contain great spoilers! Are you sure you do not see spoilers? Then hide the photos until you have the story out.

Traveling to a corner is simpler than ever. Locations already discovered you can fast traverse, but also travel to new areas is comfortable. You tap on the map wherever you want, jump on a camel or horse, and with a push of the button, the animal will take you to your destination. Great time to check Facebook on your phone, but you're missing a lot of money. The journey in Assassin's Creed Origins is often more beautiful than the destination. When you cross the green Nijldelta and swarms of birds rise or you cross the desert, and suddenly a few colossal pyramids rise on the horizon, it is difficult to avoid falling in love with the game. The just too prominent bushes and cliffs of nothing appear to do nothing about it.

Typical assassins creed

The moments that you get squeezed are sitting in a corner or on a crate or rock, hard transitions between scenes or when sentences in conversations are suddenly clipped again, do so. Also, on a normal PlayStation 4 in urban areas, the framerate is less reliable. On a PS4 Pro i had no significant strain on it. On the PS4 Pro, however, i had a significantly more frequent burden of hard fasters, in which the game crashes irrevocably.

In addition, i constantly strike on rarities. Clients are sometimes unmanageable, after a movie, the camera can hang and once you just have to restart a quest because you can not reach a particular object or person. Also, we had to rescue someone with a broken hip, foot or other limb, who died deadly after the completion of the mission, and we saw a prisoner in a spontaneous flight into the air - bouncing the prisoner on the street. A fata morgana? No, it's typical assassins creedjes; technical problems which are unfortunately very recognizable for the seasoned assassin. Too bad, because Assassin's Creed Origins has everything in its power to cope with genre-defining top games in the aforementioned series, but it just does not matter.

Makes murder fun again

Yet Origins is significantly less frustrating than its predecessors, and this is due to a combination of factors. The classical assassination missions often had a well-known path in the preceding sections. Everything went well as long as you stayed in well-placed crates, stumps and wagons, but if you thundered or clenched the wrong wall or bench - what was happening again - you were the chess. In addition, fighting with a sword, which was made too simple with counters that always worked - much less satisfying than a real assassination, which made the urge to restart in a missile big laundry.

That is different in Origins. The combat system has been completely kicked off, which only counteracts past times, and you must really struggle with bigger, stronger enemies to hit your sword, scepter or spear. Conducting a goal in a direct fight, or from a distance with arrow and bow, actually feels as satisfying as if you do that with your hidden blade, something that also no longer guarantees an insta kill. Enemies also do not alarm all their friends, giving you the chance to get someone cold. As a matter of fact, in Assassin's Creed Origins, you can often improvise a way to your goal, even if something just does not go as intended.

In addition, there are many less predefined paths. You will be able to figure out how to get the most out of your goal. Of course there is always a window that is open, or there is a hole in the wall somewhere, but it feels much less pre-chewed than before. Search for a passage - or your target - do not happen with the Eagle Vision, but literally the look of an eagle: Senu. This feathered friend is almost always a kind of drone to explore the area. Ideal during a sneaking mission, but it's also soothing to hang over Bayek when you cross the desert with your camel.

Level system as a block to your leg

At such moments it is attractive to simply ride a side and see what's happening, but unfortunately Assassin's Creed Origins is an annoying limitation: the level system. This Assassin's Creed is really a rpg and there is also a level system, but it does not always take a good deal. Each area has a certain level and enemies, but animals are also much stronger without any logical explanation. A lion can have a low level in one area and kill you with a single slap while an even lion pulls the head of your body a few meters away suddenly.

Enemies of a few levels above you are also not indicated by a number, but with a bouncy kick, the game actually tells you, "forget about it, friend." Ghost Recon was also divided into areas each with their own difficulty, but in that game you should try it at least and nothing was impossible. Assassin's Creed Origins sends you a lot more along a pre-planned route, and also forces you to make side missions for xp, because you're too weak for story missions. Having said that, it is no punishment to spend more time in beautiful Alexandria, Memphis or Crocodilopolis. Spending tens of hours in an Assassin's Creed - finally - reappears as a victory.

Assassin's Creed Origins is available from October 27 for PC, Xbox One and PS4. The review has been played on a PS4 Pro and an ordinary PS4.

Conclusion

Forget all that you know about assassinations, because with Assassin's Creed Origins almost everything has gone down. From hiding possibilities and the fighting system, to the way you ride, to the fulfillment of your time. Only because of this is Origins the fresh wind that needed this series so much. But because the different facets also connect better, Origins also takes away many frustrations. Unfortunately, the game is technically just too short and it's an absolute top score. Nevertheless, Ubisoft has managed to make Assassin's Creed a real open-air game, with a breathtakingly beautiful world that is full of adventure.

➕ Beautiful varied world
➕ Careful story with good lock
➕ Fighting system feels better
➕ Horseback riding
➕ Flying with Senu is fun

➖ Level system limits your freedom
➖ Technically just not finished

not long ago I made post of the largest maps of video games, which makes me think how big the map of Assassin's Creed Origins can be.

You can even estimate the size of a map of a video game if we take as reference the gb that occupy the hard disk.

it seems that this version is quite incredible, I have only seen the trailer of this game and it is great with background anubis.

excellent review @nehashetty

I love the game but mixed feelings about the story line. I am a Knight Templar, and I am pretty sure we are the good guys. The "old man on the mountain", Hassan-eh-Sabban is also cool......only actual Templars can see this!!!

This looks so much fun!
