The Seven Deadly Sins Knights of Britannia preview - Strong first impression

How do you stop the Holy Knights after they have committed a coup d'état? By enabling the help of the Seven Deadly Sins. That is the goal of Elizabeth, the main character in this story. You can read our The Seven Deadly Sins Knights of Britannia preview!

In The Seven Deadly Sins the Lioness kingdom has fallen and evil knights have the power. They plunder and make the population unsafe. Knights of Britannia is derived from the anime series The Seven Deadly Sins and will be released exclusively for PlayStation 4 on 9 February 2018.

Extensive 'cast'

The Seven Deadly Sins is mainly an action game, according to Bandai Namco. With multiple steerable characters you cross the kingdom in search of the Holy Knights and stop the opposition on your path.

Among others Elizabeth, the blonde Meliodas and the pig Hawk play a leading role. During their adventure, they often encounter opposition along the accessible paths. But together you stand strong and so you can also call in the help of your buddies. Yet you can not just send them to the danger, because you will also have to watch them during battles to prevent them from going down.

In Duel mode, we saw that 25 characters could be chosen, which is quite a number. Certainly since they all have their own attacks and just run differently. Whether the final version will have more characters can not be said with certainty. With more than fifteen reasonably open levels, there is at least enough choice.

Accessible to the West

The Duel mode can be played solo, but also in co-op and in local multiplayer and online multiplayer. For fighting you have at least multiple attacks (strong and light) and special moves to use. The gameplay is somewhat reminiscent of that of the Naruto Shippuden games.

Yet it is not too difficult. Developer Natsume Atari - not to be confused with Atari - has the accessibility to seem high. With an arcade design and a semi-open world, players can run around and fight freely.

The areas in which you run around look beautiful. There is enough detail in the environment and also in the effects and characters. The Seven Deadly Sins looks pretty soft and especially very colorful, which strengthens the fairytale content. Bandai Namco wants to appeal to the West with anime-based games and in the case of The Seven Deadly Sins they seem to go for accessible gameplay and a cheerful art direction.

The story may not be missing in Knights of Britannia and this is actually the biggest mode. We can not tell much about it yet, but the way you play is similar to another upcoming Bandai Namco game: Ni No Kuni 2. You go through linear levels and can walk around freely in a top-down perspective.

Preliminary Conclusion

Unfortunately we have not been able to see much of The Seven Deadly Sins yet. However, the game already played very smoothly and the fighting worked well. In addition to an extensive story, you can also play separate fights in Duels mode. Bandai Namco wants to conquer the West with this game in terms of anime games and that would be possible.

The Seven Deadly Sins: Knights of Britannia appear on 9 February exclusively for PlayStation 4.
