Previously in the arcade hall you did not get enough of it. Tackling each other in Street Fighter, racing a pot or a challenging vertical scrolling shooter as 1942. This last genre has been a little bit cut in recent years, but developer Infinite Dreams brings back the classic arcade experience of those games. How, you read in this Sky Force Reloaded Switch review!

In 2006 Sky Force Reloaded came to iOS and Android. The game brought the classic arcade action from games like Tyrian, Gradius and R-Type, including the terrible difficulty, to the smartphones. Logically, the game became a big hit. But Infinite Dreams did not stop at a mobile release.

Everything that moves must come down

In 2014, the game came with a price tag of only 10 euros to Steam and the consoles. Now you can also go for the same money on the Switch against complete armies of tanks, airplanes and other military scum. Like most vertical scrolling shooters you control a plane and you have to take it on your own against hundreds of enemies. How? By popping and smartly moving.

Because in the 13 levels of Sky Force Reloaded, almost everything that moves is something that wants to destroy you. And so it is you or she. While swinging between all the bullets, you shoot one after the other pilot towards the Walhalla and you pop at least as many tanks to their little ones. Strong control is essential in this.

Fortunately, this Switch version of Sky Force Reloaded is good whether you play with the Joy Cons (not on the move) or with a pro controller. You fly wonderfully smoothly back and forth between the barrage of bullets, laser beams and flying opponents, while you pop to your heart's content. It sounds easy, but it certainly is not. Sky Force Reloaded challenges you and spoils you at the same time.

Smoothly glide over your screen

Where the game gives you a beautiful level every time against a very strong soundtrack, the game gives no mercy when it comes to the gameplay. You can shoot each of the enemies without mercy, so you have to work very carefully to disable them. You should try to collect as many stars as possible from fallen opponents. And if that is not enough, you also have to save civilians.

That brings a lot of timing with it. Because when do you go aside for that bullet and when do you choose to save a citizen? You have to think ahead and sometimes respond very quickly to the enemy. Moreover, you are not equipped with decent weapons or a thick shield in the beginning of the game.

So you will often see yourself plummeting to the bottom and then buy upgrades in the hangar on the world map. After all, you have collected all those stars in the levels. Strengthening your plane and then playing a level again is addictive. And there lies the power of Sky Force Reloaded.

Double chaos, double pleasure

But in the end it will be a little frustrating that you have to go through the same level for the fifth or sixth time. Sky Force Reloaded lends itself best for short sessions. And with this Switch version it comes in handy that you can easily choose the airspace while on the road.

Another way to deal with the frustration is to play the game together with a wingman. Sky Force Reloaded has an offline co-op mode that lets you run the game with a friend. And then the chaos is complete.

That way you have double firepower and you can work more tactically. Each one can take one side of the screen under his wing and mow down the enemies. Or one shoots everything that passes, while the other supports and focuses on the citizens. Anyway, the game is much more fun with the two of us.

Conclusion

Sky Force Reloaded is a very strong game that you grab, whether you're alone or playing with a friend. The game looks great on the Switch and plays just as smoothly as the version for other consoles. And the game is even better for short sessions at the Switch.
Just in the train a flight through enemy territory, it is delicious. And gradually you become stronger and stronger. So keep coming back for more. And that is exactly what a game in bird flight must offer.

➕ Classic arcade feeling
➕ Plays deliciously
➕ The most fun with the two of us

➖ Overplaying levels can frustrate
