Greedfall Preview - Colonization of magical island goes wrong

On the basis of studio Spiders, a new role-playing game will be launched this year. Besides Vampyr, Darksiders 3, State of Decay 2 and many others, Greedfall will also appear.

In the RPG you step into the boots of a young man who has stepped off the boat on a newly discovered island. Just like in the real world (a few hundred years ago), the first task is to colonize the island and pack all the magical splendor. It is up to you to choose where your heart lies.

The biggest culprit is the voice-acting in combination with the scripts. Where you can follow the tone in any conversation with a lot of conversations like Dragon Age, you miss it completely at Greedfall. And since the game advertises itself with the options and storytelling, you can see that something goes wrong there.

As for animations during cutscenes, it is also not wealth. The mouths move, but that is what has been said. For a game where, just like in Dragon Age Inquisition, you will spend a lot of time talking to friends, you will soon start to get annoyed by it.

Every choice you make in Greedfall will have an effect on the storyline and with it your club of disturbances. The natives who join you come from different tribes (and can not stand each other) and the settlers can not fascinate a carved magical tree. It is up to you to choose one side and to make a lot of choices for each mission.

So you will have to go back to her tribe during a mission for the native to prevent a war. Once arrived her mother is already on a warpath, after which you have to be in the pursuit. Are you going for the faster but more dangerous path and are you in time to save her sister (mothers turn out to be dead anyway), or do you not risk your body for a heroic rescue attempt?

Diplomacy

On the dangerous path you come face to face with beautiful nature and possibly even more beautiful magical beasts. And who knows, you will also encounter other secrets or hidden objects as herbs through that route! Because besides fighting and hunting, you can also brew drinks and make equipment in Greedfall to your heart's content! A few hundred weapons can be found, bought or made in this way!

The complete arsenal is divided into fourteen classes, in which, among other things, clubs, swords and firearms can be distinguished. Not only to defend you against the monsters that wander around the island, but also to kill your human opponents. If that is not enough, you can also use your freshly obtained magical powers to surprise enemies!

Where it is possible to use the extensive arsenal to help enemies to the other world, you can also go for a more diplomatic option. You will then have to invest a lot in the passive talents, but that way you can completely avoid many battles. But here too, people in your party will not be happy that you do not kill bad guys. And that again influences the end of the game...

Preliminary Conclusion

Whether you are more of a popping gun or a wise diplomacy, Greedfall will be able to offer both. Where the world looks good and you can visit a lot of large areas, the animations still drop some stitches. All in all a game from later this year to keep an eye on if you like running around in nature!
