Elder Scrolls Online Dragon Bones - Dungeons to die for
This week is already time for the next DLC package of The Elder Scrolls Online: Dragon Bones. We walked through one of the new dungeons with the developers. Is the quality as high as Horns of the Reach? Read it below.
The largest part of the Elder Scrolls Online Dragon Bones DLC consists of the addition of two new dungeons: Fang Lair and Scalecaller Peak. In the latter dungeon, the players enter the cemetery of a deceased Dragon Priest, now overrun by sect members who are trying to release a deadly virus on Tamriel. A practice that, of course, has to be put right away. We only chose to make a trip through the humid corridors of Fang Lair.
A rich history
In the Fang Lair dungeon we end up in a place that is already quite old the real world, because this old mine was already the place for an exciting quest in The Elder Scrolls Arena, the very first Elder Scrolls title. In the Elder Scrolls Online Dragon Bones DLC it is already decades later than Arena and the place has a long history behind it.
It started as a rich mine of the Dwemer, the dwarfs, and was considered a beautiful treasure chest for dwarfs on the wealth. Where gold can be found, a dragon finally ends up; exactly what happened to Fang Lair. The place owes its name to the dragon that lived for centuries. Since the death of the dragon, the mine has been forgotten and abandoned.
At least until now, because a sect of necromancers intends to bring the dragon to life and to have their orders followed. Time to put on your best armor and to send the sect called the Blackmarrow to the realm of the dead.
No load times
When we take the first steps in Fang Lair we are immediately greeted by a group of necromancers and their loyal skeletons and undead, a scene that we will encounter a lot in the mine. But if we continue the way along the old equipment of the Dwemer, past old and new bones, we arrive at a beautiful view and unique for the Elder Scrolls Online.
With the view you can see the other side, where we will walk later in the dungeon. Not only is it possible to see where you will go later and to see, of course, afterwards where you come from, the dungeon is also the first dungeon in The Elder Scrolls Online that can be run through without loading times. The developers have tried to increase the immersion in the world and the pace. Players no longer have dead moments in Fang Lair unless they stop for a boss to discuss tactics.
Orryn the Black
Soon we arrive at the first boss. Orryn the Black, leader of the Blackmarrow sect, is already waiting for us and unleashing an army of undead before he teleports himself to another location. The undead come to us in waves. In this fight it is important to kill key enemies first, because some enemies can call up more undead, heal everyone or give all their undead friends a big boost in damage. If you do not want to end up as new additions to the army, it is therefore necessary to drop those skeletons first.
Fortunately, we walk without bitches beyond the battalion and we continue the route through the mine, where we arrive at the second boss in no time. This fight clearly shows that the necromancers are fond of collecting the most exotic animals and bones, because the fight consists of four different animals: a bear, a dire wolf, a tiger and a guar. The fight consists of only difficult choices, because all animals are equally strong. Except for the bear, who is by far the strongest of all. The goal is to kill the bear.
As long as the bear is alive, the rest of the animals will be left in a jiffy after they have been lying on the ground for a moment. It is therefore important to make sure to kill the other animals periodically so that they do not make it too difficult for the group and especially the healer, but in the meantime the bear must be under constant fire.
Enjoy the architecture
Because it takes a while for the third boss to appear, there is the opportunity to enjoy the mine and its architecture. The history of the mine comes out well in Fang Lair, because there the architecture and rusty artifacts have been abundantly clear of the Dwemer. The calcium works of art are of the newest inhabitants, but nature also puts a clear stamp on the area; a relic from the time when it had free play between the dragon and the Blackmarrow.
During the walk we also encounter large crystals that are guarded by the sect members and which are also important to destroy. You let them stand until they explode, then spray and new undead. This part will also come back later in final boss battles and that they already put this down to make players familiar with the mechanics of these bosses.
An undead dragon
The next boss is also a good collector who is particularly proud of four different heads standing in a circle around his resting place. During the fight, the heads will activate one by one and add a certain mechanism to the fight until the head in question is destroyed. You can make handy use of the kamikaze skeletons by luring them to the heads. However, be quick with killing the boss, because if you take too long, he will activate all the heads at the same time and in that case we wish you a lot of success.
The last fight for the boss was a skeleton and a ghost, who were a few dragon hunters for their unfortunate death and were hunting for the dragon. The fight consists mainly of fighting the skeleton, but sometimes the spirit will draw someone from the group to her with a chain. The player in question can not do anything anymore, which is very painful when she takes the healer. If the player is completely drawn to the mind, the person is only immediately dead. Communication and paying attention when the mind strikes her is therefore very important during the fight.
Fortunately, you will be rewarded with defeating the pair, because they will help you in the last battle against the undead dragon and Orryn the Black. That is necessary too, because the fight is packed with mechanics, multiple enemies and different phases. The Elder Scrolls Online Dragon Bones DLC also brings an extra option to make the last battles in dungeons even more difficult. This option is only reserved for the real veterans among us.
Conclusion
We are very entertained in Fang Lair and are certainly curious about Scalecaller Peak. For those who do not intend to buy the package, they can also enjoy the update, because everyone has the opportunity to determine the appearance of their armor themselves, new Battlegrounds, the level and skills system is taken on the shovel and even more.
Update 17 and the Elder Scrolls Dragon Bones DLC are now available for PC, PS4 and Xbox One. The DLC is for sale for 1500 Crowns, which amounts to 12.99 euros.
