Sons of Anarchy Men of Mayhem Review - Every round is a surprise

Put on your leather fingerless gloves, put on your helmet and pull your cut over your shoulders, "because we are in for a ride" with the board game Sons of Anarchy: Men of Mayhem, which is based on the eponymous television series. With your motorcycle you drive from clubhouse to Irish Freddy's to collect some weapons, to search for a little moth in the Palace Restaurant, until you end up in St. Thomas Hospital.

In this board game you'll be in the shoes of Samcro, Mayan, Lin Syndicate or One Niner and take on your fellow players to collect as much money as possible over 6 rounds, entirely in your own way (within the rules of the game of course). Do you make sure you can always sell stimulating products on the black market, or do you exchange honestly acquired weapons in The Hairy Dog? When you have seen the series you may remember that this is the normal course of events for this motorcycle gang. For those who have not noticed it yet, the game has a criminal theme. Not reserved for the youngest players among us.

What does such a game round look like? You get orders to the number of members you have. With these orders you do one of the following actions: you drive around a bit, exploit a location under your control, get = a prospect inwards or your promoter just a full member to be able to carry out more orders for the next round. The orders are used one by one around the clock until they are all finished. The actions you want to perform happen immediately, the downtime per player is minimal. The game therefore mainly revolves around the exploitation of locations to get your "resources". However, these must only be occupied by you if one of your rivals is there too. Let's put it this way, we do not share! This can not all be aroused by the police without suspicion, so the amount of 'heat' that you collect also limits your possibilities to fulfill your criminal activities. When everyone has implemented their actions, we go to the market to get rid of the drugs, unless you have too much heat. Money is distributed and the next round prepared.

Set up: Apple egg: each club has its own private board and clubhouse. It clearly states who receives how much money, dudes and guns. The locations that form the playing field are chosen randomly and become known as the game progresses.

Game explanation: The instructions count fourteen pages with large text and pictures, you are so through it. When you know the rules, you have explained them to your rival gangs, or fellow players, within five to ten minutes. The private board also helps everyone during the game as a reminder. These are therefore necessary to distinguish the terms 'Recruit' and 'Patch in' from each other. Dudes, Members and Prospects... just to mention one. It is just as good to read how the Anarchy cards work exactly, where you sometimes need to get your instruction book.

Production: The stands that act as members and prospects are colored according to the choice of your club. Unfortunately, they are not detailed to the relevant characters and our print has a number of minor production errors. You use them throughout the game, so fortunately they are not made of cardboard with plastic standees. The cardboard used for the location and the money is thick, heavy and of very high quality. The cards are of lesser quality, but they are placed on the table, so they are not constantly in hand. The other elements are of high quality plastic. Finally everything is neatly organized in the box. Take care of your own bags. The production value is high for the price - that is what we will pay attention to.

However, the game does not sell well and is not the most popular board game on the market. Too bad, because it does have something. Is it the pleasure of every round that you see your money pile grow? Did it grow fast enough? Should I have sold three drug packages instead of five drug packages so that I still had a stock? Too much heat, now I can not exchange drugs without being caught and losing a member! How do I solve this now? All questions that go through your mind while you play your poker face while playing.

That the game does not sell is also reflected in the price. That is why it is currently in the Amazon budgetback for about €15.00, but the production quality compared to other games is therefore equal to that of €35.00.

For the experienced player, Sons of Anarchy has enough variation, strategy and mechanics to keep you busy for two hours and to bring it up regularly. For the non-experienced player, it is a purchase without risk to discover what the current game generation offers.

There are various variations in the game. The aforementioned Anarchy cards are available in different difficulty levels. Club houses are two-sided, we recommend using the advanced side. As a result, everyone has different numbers of members, money or guns. A total of four players can participate in this board game. When purchasing extensions, this can be upgraded to five or six players.
