Retro - Playstation Games

in #gaming8 years ago (edited)

After Gameboy and Super Nintendo it was the time for something more advanced. Behold Playstation, a SF looking CD spinning machine that could run those sweet sweet new GAIMZ. It had vibrating controllers with more buttons and mushroom aiming. Mind blown, so future! My friend and steemer @alktoni was more of the playstation player and he could probably talk about playstation games one day. I never played Metal Gear games or some other playstation classics, but here are some of the games I played and had great fun with.

Crash Bandicoot 3

Good old Crash Bandicoot jumping over obstacles or running from big boulders in the jungle just like Indiana Jones, while destroying crates and collecting apples for better score. What's not to like.

Crash Team Racing

This was a great multiplayer kart racing game. You can play as many characters on different and colorful tracks. There were even some powerups for that extra win chance, take the power up and launch missiles or take short invulnerability for the win. Fun times.

Tekken 3

This was the best fighting game on playstation. Realistic characters and realistic combat with some SF exceptions, in this game throws did matter and you could change fighting stances to get the upper hand on your opponent.

Quake 2

Stroggs from Quake series might be the darkest vision of cyborgs in any game ever, each stronger than the other with more Hp and bigger firepower. You needed to balance the weapons and survivability, also quick reflexes would help. One of the best multiplayer games on playstation.

Metal Gear Solid and Crash Team Racing come to mind. :)

I wasn't a huge PlayStation fan because of the ugly graphics, I still preferred the SNES style, but MGS, and to some extent Mortal Kombat 3 were games that made me want to own a PlayStation.

Tekken 3 and Driver I also remember playing.

And of course the Tony Hawk games.

I totally forgot about driver... what a game. Shame driver 2 didn't quite live up to the expectations though... although it was good

Driver was one of the best driving games on playstation. Somehow I never got to play Metal Gear games, I've heard nothing but the praises on that series.
Playstation graphics were also sometimes off-putting to me, they kinda look like blocky metal sheets melted together.

Well, there are definitely reasons to be critical of the Metal Gear series, trust me. :p

I was into them for the story, for the most part. As games, they fall short on some aspects. The controls and camera can be very clunky.

Metal Gear Solid 3 is probably my favourite in the series, it was slightly remade for an HD collection that they released, and includes improvements on playability, you should check that out if you're ever interested.

I loved the original PS. Crash bandicoot was a favourite, but does anyone ever remember AceCombat?

The idea of beng able to fly a jet and blow people out of the sky was a big step for me back in the day

Oh yeah, Ace combat was so much fun!

Agreed amigo.

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater was also one of my favorite PS1 games, but Crash Bandicoot for the win! The series was awesome when Naughty Dog was developing the games, unfortunately it became more and more lame after that. Crash Bash was still pretty fun, though.

Here's a cool orchestration of the original theme by the way:

I liked Pro Skater 2 on PC, one of my favorite sports games ever. That music :)

PS what a nice ERA :D
Nice blog my friend, keep it going :)

Great era. Tnx :)

I grew up with retro consoles as I was growing up though this was long after these consoles were being sold in stores. I remember the days when you got the whole game when you bought it, the days before micro-transactions, and before game patches and DLC. My favorite game of all time has to be Super Mario World on the SNES. There's just something about hearing that iconic sound and running through the Mushroom Kingdom. When I was about seven, I was given a Playstation, the original Playstation. I put alot of time into Crash Bandicoot, Air Combat, Jet Moto and many other games I can't recall the names of right now because I sadly don't have them in my library anymore.

Yeah, it is shameful what the publishing companies are pushing these days, for example I'm playing new Deus Ex
game and there are micro transactions for a single player game, you can buy one time praxis points.. What were they thinking.
