Gaming Retrospective - Dark Reign 2
Dark Reign 2 is a RTS game released in a year 2000 and was developed by Pandemic Studios. Pandemic Studios is mostly known for their successful games like Battlezone 2 and old Star Wars: Battlefront games. Dark Reign 2 is set in a SF setting far into the future where two warring factions are battling it out. Story wise this is a prequel of the original game and we can play from perspectives of Sprawlers and JDA factions.
Differences between those two factions are that JDA is protected inside huge domes, while Sprawlers are left to survive outside in an inhospitable 26th century Earth. JDA is more organized while Sprawlers are more animalistic and evolved. Gameplay is heavily influenced by the battle zone environments, every hill and elevation can be used to your tactical advantage. Units and factions are diverse can give many hours of great RTS gameplay. Graphics, as well as great futuristic soundtrack made this game very fun at the time.
It looks like Warhammer a little bit, doesnt it? I think i might check first a couple of youtube videos to check it out.
I guess it does a little bit, game has very similar art style and unit design as Battlezone games, which is not surprising considering the game came out from the same dev team.
I should give it a shot, loved RTS back then!
If you really like old school RTS games and you missed this one sure, it is a decent SF game.
