Battle for Middle Earth Games
Lord of the Rings movies captured imaginations of many people, millions of movie tickets and books were sold. It is one of the most lore rich worlds any escapist would want to visit. Fantasy rich world of Middle Earth will always make you come back for more. So many bad games were made to milk this franchise, however for every 5 bad games came the good one and the best one is Battle for Middle Earth. RTS series that any fan of the RTS genre and Lord of the Rings can enjoy immensely.
Battle for Middle Earth
First game was released not too long after Return of The King in 2004. and was made by Electronic Arts. This is one of rare games from EA that is actually good. During campaign mode players can chose between forces of good and forces of evil and play some of the missions from the movies and play with almost every hero from the movies. There are four playable factions that we can build up full armies with. Gondor, Rohan, Isengard and Mordor. Every faction also have magic points that will help them during battles and can change the course of the battle. For example Mordor can summon Balrog and Gondor can summon Eagles to help them, you can even build your favorite heroes from the movies. Very fun RTS.
Battle for Middle Earth 2
As the first game reached certain success, naturally it wouldn't take long to see another BFME game. Sequel was released in 2006. and game passed with flying colors. Game improved in every area with more interesting playable factions, you could now build Dwarf, Goblin and Elf armies with improved Mordor, Isengard and Men of the West from the first game. Your main keep can have many upgrade options considering what faction you choose, every one is distinct and have their own flavor. That added huge replayability to this game. Another interesting feature in this game is hero editor, players can create their own customizable heroes in addition to cannon ones and build them with their armies. Seeing all this play out in real time brings Middle Earth to life. One of the best games of mid 2000's.
The Rise Of The Witch-King
This is a big expansion for Battle for Middle Earth 2. It is a prequel story about the rise of the Witch-King of Angmar and fall of the Arnor kingdom. Angmar is also 7th playable faction and one of the more interesting ones with armies of well trained trolls and powerful magic. Old factions received some new units and hero editor allowed the players to build Troll heroes. Full package for many hours of multiplayer and skirmish battles.
I love these games so much. I still break it out every couple of years to play. Thanks for bringing me back to them!

I love all lotr and strangely was watching the fellowship last night again, I really wish they would do a updated version of the online mmorpg something that follows the story and is action based.
Lotr Online would be an awesome game if devs would build the engine from scratch and made it look like modern games. Everything was build on that very old graphics engine, game looks really old for today's standards.

Thanks for sharing! Never tryed this one, I prefer on'line RPGs, but as a huge fan of Tolkien I think I will:) Spended a few years in "the Lord of the Rings on-line" untill the server was closed... With my 95 level dwarf. Bastards:)
Lord of the Rings Online is a decent MMORPG, and it's a shame for your lvl 95 dwarf, may he rest in peace. My most played MMO is Star Wars Old Republic.

Lol, I swing both sides. Finished the game with Gunslinger and Sith Sorcerer. I also have 3 characters lvl 40-48 and others 10-30. What I love about the game is that every class has completely new story so there is essentially 8 games in one, and all the expansions... UGE UGE GAME!
Me the same, but I'm more kind of Empire person:) My husband always playes as a jedi, I always do as a sith, so we never meet:( My favorite is sith warrior, it has the most interesting story line as for me:) Tryed to play as a sith sorcerer but what I didn't like about it - the story line itself is kind of offencive:) Have you already played the last update?
I haven't played the latest expansion. I grinded that game way too much, I'm waiting for the right moment to jump back in when the will to play returns. I wouldn't say that there is a bad story for any character because there are also 6 companions with their own backstories for every class. That's a huge chunk of new SW stories to experience. Gunslinger my favorite though :)
Wow I didn't know they closed the servers down! That a big shame as also a Tolkien fan what I think really needs to happen and I been saying it for years now is they need a updated version of the game and something thats real action based and not just point and click I really hope the do this but do see it happening grrrr.
No-no-no, englich serves are OK, but I'm from Ukraine and it was more convinient for me to play on russian ones. And two years ago they just dissapeared. I started a new character on english server, but it already took me so long to develop the previous one, and I had all the locations bought... So it was just too offencively to start from the begining.
Oh i see now I understand thank you, still a shame as I am sure you spent many hours on the previous servers. Crazy they didn't give warning.
Oh, they warned. In the very end. The last three days the game was totally free to play, but it looked as an agony. Then it was a Comic Con in three months from that, and I bought a board game "Hobbit" there, and inside there was a promo code to free month of free game, all locations. That looked like a sarcasm:)
Your last comment don't have a reply button, no idea, why, so I'll just write it here:) Yep, sometimes you just get overeat with the game. My last entry also was in the last year, when the last expansion arrived. Will not spoil it for you:)
When we make to many comment "stairs" you can't reply on the bottom one, you can reply on previous ones tho.
I'm tempted to just go on youtube and spoil it for myself, but won't do it! The Force is strong with me ;)
