Terminator Genisys: Future War is a free-to-play mobile strategy game created by Plarium LLC. It is a continuation of the Terminator franchise, as it takes place after the events of the Terminator Genisys movie. When you begin the game, you will have a choice of what faction you would like to align with. You start by picking your side – humans or Skynet (if artificial intelligence doesn’t get to you first!) and begin to establish your base. After a brief-yet-informative tutorial, to get you set up with all the controls and strategic considerations you’ll need to make in every battle, you’re off to the races. So no longer do any of us fans have to hitch our wagon to the human resistance, we can now dominate as the machines! Once your faction is chosen, you can delve into building up your base and army in order to win the future war.
Genisys has fallen and Skynet is offline yet the future war is still destined to happen as the conflict between man and machine rages on and on.

In a unique twist players can adopt the role of the new human Resistance commander as iconic John Conner is missing in action or as the cybernetic machines unwaveringly set on terminating the entire human race.
In a SimCity style build format similar to Transformers: Earth Wars players must build various item producing structures to power their base as they amass troops and continually complete research to aid in raiding missions. Each action is performed through single taps to select and upgrade or select and send. Unlike other alliance based PvP games like CoC, battles are self-automated as are upgrades so players can relax in a stress free environment when enjoying the game.

Develop, upgrade, and unleash over 48 unique Skynet and Resistance units in six strategic classes as you battle for new recruits, weapons, and advanced technology.
Join an alliance or create your own, cooperating with players from around the world to compete online in real-time massive multiplayer clan warfare.

Take part in tournaments that pit alliances against each other to compete for massive rewards and control of territory.
Players have the chance to try to survive in a world torn apart by war, where only the strongest prevail. They also have the choice of fighting alongside the rogue robots of Skynet or on the side of the rebels led by the infamous John Connor. Interestingly, this war has never been resolved in the films and nobody knows which side will end up on top. Choosing wisely could be imperative. The game also gives players from all over the world the opportunity to settle this great conflict once and for all.

With the freedom to really flesh things out on your own way, through an endless stream of quests that challenge you to construct and level up your current buildings, amassing an army and conducting research on more advanced structures. Built to fit the mobile gaming life, tasks last anywhere between 5-10 minutes. And once you get your base fully fleshed out, you can head out into the world map, to take over abandoned buildings and conquer other bases.

While fighting for military superiority, forming strong alliances are your best bet in Terminator Genisys: Future War, which is available as a free-to-play on Android. Battles require no interaction and are heavily stats based – making them ideal for playing on mobile. These automated conflicts add an extra layer of incentive to the whole experience, as you watch your army defeat or fall to the enemy.
And defeat, unlike other games, does not condemn you to the point of setting up a new account. You learn, rebuild and get back into the game at a nice, quick pace.
Of course, there is a micro transaction element to this game that slightly affects the experience from time to time – enabling users to accrue a greater amount of resources.

Screenshot_20171201-125843~2.png

By this point in the game, you’re probably already paying into this universe to enhance your character, with incentives placed throughout.

Now, this game does have its own shortcomings as well – symptomatic of the entire genre. After a while, the initial grind can become tiring, and the regimented battle structure could do with some gameplay variety going forward.

This could really benefit from some League of Legends-style play styles, some real time strategy gameplay elements to have control over how the fights turn out. I’d love to see this fixed through a future software update, along with potential balancing of opponents who have paid/not paid for extra items or matchmaking to that degree at least.
The aim of the game is to go to war by constructing bases, training troops, and upgrading leaders. Players also have to collect resources which include energy, iridium, materials, ammo, and fuel. The unique in-game currency is technology points.

Screenshot_20171201-125909~2.png

Things such as building development happen in real time but technology points can be used to speed up processes.
This game will not only appeal to fans of the Terminator franchise but also people who are already well-versed in the world of real-time MMOs that require similar objectives to be fulfilled. For those looking for a change from the more historically-based clan MMOs then *** Genisys: Future War*** is definitely worth a go.
As a free-to-play game, you can undoubtedly expect in-app purchases that run as high as $99.99 per item. Although there are no pop up ads, and Google Play Games is supported for achievements and cloud saving. Options to link your Facebook account has also been made available.

Fight the Future War

Go head-to-head with players worldwide in PvP and Clan PvP gameplay.
Battle PvE opponents for powerful bonuses, rare components, and technology — then customize them with a robust crafting system.
Choose your favorite Skynet and Resistance characters to lead your forces and unlock special abilities.
Reset the Future: Take control of Time Machines to get more territory and power-ups.

Due to the Build nature of Genisys there is a lot of wait time within the game. Players can however speed up completion for the last stages of completion. Therefore it is important to be aware of build times and be sure to check back in just before they finish to take advantage of the free boosts. Granted it’s only five minutes but when added up it helps speed things along.

Screenshot_20171201-130503~2.png

Boosts can also be bought or won and are available in short five, ten minutes reductions or much longer lengths. Tempting as they are to use them, as players increase their levels, build times get longer and longer and as such, it is best to squirrel away boosts until really needed.

Genisys Cases

Genisys cases pop up in incrementally longer times and offer a range of items such as ammo, fuel and materials etc. As small as the rewards are they are constant and should be taken advantage of diligently. Likewise Loyalty rewards can be collected on a regular basis and are higher in value yet longer in waiting. Simply said, to make the most of Terminator Genisys: Future War small, short and repeated log-ins and sessions of gameplay is the best way to efficiently progress through the game.

Stay Busy!

Starting out players can only upgrade one building at a time, train one type of troop at a time and research one item at a time. It is therefore imperative to always be busy upgrading and researching as much as possible at a constant rate. Completing the missions, objections and quests should also be given prime focus as this they offer constant and lucrative rewards as well as helpful hints as to what should be upgraded next to keep a balanced base.

Screenshot_20171201-125913~2.png

Yet as is the norm with many other build / strategy based war games due to the PvP matching algorithms in battles it is always, always best to max out as much as possible being levelling up in tiers (i.e. the Command Centre and Headquarters)

Skill Points

Skill points are very rare to come by and as such should be used carefully! Starting out, they are best used for speeding up construction and research rather than production upgrades as this will allow faster progression of levelling up and stronger stats to allow for more successful raiding missions where loot needed can easily be won. Just to reiterate, keep researching constantly and use skill points as soon as they are available!

World Map

The world map and subsequent other dimensions are where the supposed and advertised action takes place. Unfortunately however, since players have absolutely no control over battles apart from selecting how many troops to send into battle. That said, the best tip when on the world map would be to focus raids on desired resources needed for research or upgrades or the ever valuable Apart from that, simply start with raids which are closest to your base to minimize wait times and allow for more raids over a set given amount of time. Joining an alliance is also crucial to enjoying the World Map as team battles are definitely more enjoyable than solo excursions.

With over 30 years of canon history and almost limitless fanboy fiction to build upon, it is hard to not feel that with such boundless potential, Terminator Genisys: Future War is very, very lacking and utterly disappoints! With such rich and unique content to draw upon, the storyline within the game is absolutely non-existent!
What could have been full of an addictive narrative and anchor for maintaining repeat gameplay, players are instead left with an empty shell that is nothing more than a basic click and wait build game.

Had the option to actually view battles or even more so actually direct and control fights then Genisys: Future War could actually be considered a proper strategy based game full of Meta based tactics which allow for thought provoking gameplay.

Conclusion

That said, for those players who have endless patience and enjoy a slow build game as a way to pass the time, then this could be a suitable download for them. Yet in essence, the graphics, sounds effects and addictiveness of gameplay whilst not being horrible, are certainly not exceptional in any sense and as such Terminator Genisys: Future War scores a very generous one star out of five.
