Almost two years after the release of the rockier fighting game Street Fighter V, Capcom comes with the 35 euro Arcade Edition of the game. And that makes the game interesting, whether you already have the game or not. What is in this version of the game? You can read that in this Street Fighter V Arcade Edition Review!

In 2016 Capcom threw the helm completely with the release of Street Fighter V. The game brought a completely new fighting system with it and immediately put the eSports world on edge. Players could really fight each other again.

Back on the shovel

The fighting system of Street Fighter V really brought dynamism to the game. The system of V-Triggers, V-Skills and V-Reversals made every fight quite exciting until the end. Of course the tactics, combos and special attacks were also part of the game that became more balanced per update.

And now Capcom throws the fighting system back on the shovel in this Arcade Edition. At least, on the shovel is a big word. The developer simply brings more dynamics to the game by introducing new V-Triggers for each character. Did you already understand the characters? Then you can now start again.

For example, the Ryu V-Trigger is a Parry that really outweighs the opponent. And Zangief might not have been the most ideal choice to perform combos, but the new V-Trigger makes this a different story. The new V-Triggers are a pleasant change after two years of Street Fighter V that make the game feel really fresh.

Extra benefit for the newcomer

Capcom already has a monthly DLC update in Street Fighter V, which always refreshes the game by often bringing new characters to the game. A total of twelve characters have already been released, bringing the total number of characters to 26. And all these characters are available when you purchase the Arcade mode without having to hand in one cent of your Fight Money, which you can normally purchase content in the game.

It is a deliberate choice of Capcom to attract new players to the game. And with so much advantage (twelve characters, a few levels and a pack of mountain packages) that should certainly succeed. But this can come across as a stitch with the loyal player. He will not get his digital money back, in fact, the owner of Street Fighter V just has to buy all characters of DLC season 1 and 2 with Fight Money.

Unless you choose to purchase the Arcade Edition for 35 euros. Capcom focuses with this edition especially on the one who skipped the game at the release, for example because of the lack of single player content. Because you get enough in this edition. Where Capcom first emphasized the online playing, a large portion of single player content now comes to the game that is added for free. Starting with the main addition, the Arcade mode.

All Street Fighter stories at a glance

This mode lets you, as usual in a fighting game, play a number of battles in a row and then reach the final boss. It is a standard tune, but one that every fighting game meets to make fans feast. Capcom makes it special this time, in honor of Street Fighters' thirtieth birthday.

Because instead of climbing a ladder with each character, Capcom now does 'every' Street Fighter story that you know. You start with the original Street Fighter, to go chronologically to Street Fighter Alpha, Street Fighter II, Street Fighter IV, Street Fighter V and finally Street Fighter III. Each game has its own storyline and is therefore a separate ladder.

And the cool thing is that you can relive every game about it by playing it. In Street Fighter II you choose your fighter and climb the ladder to be able to beat Vega, Balrog and M. Bison at the end. Do you miss Sagat? That's right, because it has not yet appeared at the time of writing and therefore logically not yet available in this story.

The same goes for a lot of other characters, including the half cast of Street Fighter III. Gill, Necro, Sean, Yang and Yun, Makoto, Q, Hugo, Remy, Twelve, Elena and Dudley: you have to miss them all and that is a shame. Whether these characters still come to the game is unknown, but if this is the case, then it will take a lot of months with new characters before only this list is complete.

Different paths

Apart from this loss you will get a really nostalgic trip. The characters that are already available come from the relevant game in their kloffie. And, last but not least, you can compete against them in their own level from that particular game (including a remix of the soundtrack of that level)! Among other things, the iconic roof on which you fight Ryu, the English castle where Cammy hits and of course the secret hideout of M.Bison in a temple in Thailand.

They are all in it. Another great element is that you can follow different paths. This means that you can always choose who you want to give a few hits next time. It does not bother very much and does not change anything at the end, but it is a nice addition. And the end?

That is, as usual, different for every character and every Street Fighter storyline. Each time you release a piece of artwork that tells the end of your character and another piece of artwork from the Street Fighter universe. It challenges you to play through the different Street Fighter stories with every character.

Arcade is not the only new one

In addition to the Arcade mode, Capcom has added two new modes to Street Fighter V: Team Battle and Extra Battle. In Team Battle Mode you can compose two teams of up to five characters and have them battled against each other in one against a fight. It is a cool mode that makes it fun to fight against each other with more than two players on the couch.

Extra Battle is a mode that costs you Fight Money. You have to use this in-game money to take part in challenges that are just available. If you meet the challenge, you will be richly rewarded with, among other things, Fight Money and unique outfits.

But the most important addition of Street Fighter V Arcade Edition may still be found in Training mode. There you can now train as a real e-athlete by seeing the frame data of each movement. Through these insights, which are demonstrated with, among other things, colors, you can understand your opponent even more easily. And that again ensures that you can share a lot of rattling with a bit more ease!

Conclusion

Where the basis of Street Fighter V was always very strong, it has now become even more complete. With a whole series of characters, levels and outifts, there is plenty of choice. And when it comes to modes, there is something for everyone, both online and offline, multiplayer and single player.

Capcom uses this version of Street Fighter V to open the door to e-sports, which is open to everyone, but also offers a complete game for anyone who does not have this ambition. For every fighter boss Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition is mandatory, but also the one who has not bought all characters has benefited from this version.
