PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, PUBG for short, has expanded its territory and can now also be played by people with an Xbox One. Here and there the game was slightly negative in the news because of the switch to the Xbox One but that does not stop them from playing. This is our PUBG Xbox One review!

We start right away at the beginning, so sensibly. When you start the game you can put together your own character. Man or woman, long or short hair, brown or blonde and a dark or light skin color, you can decide for yourself at the beginning.

If you later want to change something about the appearance of your character then you have bad luck for the first few hours you put into the game, because this is only possible if you have achieved a certain number of points by playing pots. For example, a gender change costs 3000 points. So do not push through the menus too quickly, but first select exactly what you want before you start the first game.

In the deep

Once you are done, you are literally thrown into the deep. You press play, you fall from the plane and you look it up.

There are just no lions present to use the proverb 'to throw the lions', but the first few pots will be very frustrating. What is good, what is bad? What is everything for? These are questions that will flash through your head and cause irritation when you play PUBG for the first time.

Of course you can always look at the controls, but in the middle of a game you also have to figure out how to get to the panel of the controls. Buttons have double meanings, so you can not zoom in by pressing LT once, but by pressing LT twice.

Able to do

When you start to master these controls a little bit, the adventure can start as you had in mind. You jump out of the plane again and try to find as favorable a place as possible where few people will jump out of the sky.

Once on the ground, you enter the first house you can find and take everything you can. The nice thing is that there is always something to be found in a house, whether it is a weapon, adjustments for your weapon or connection to heal yourself, there is always something interesting.

The fact that there is so much to find and tackle is a good thing, the game becomes fairer and it ensures that there is no boring pot for you. Yet there is also an enemy that you can not stop with all your pistols and guns: the time. For a certain number of minutes, the folder is made smaller and if you are outside the selected area you wait a slow death, unless you can win the race against the clock.

Heart in your throat

With the race against the clock in the back of your head and with your weapons full of ammunition, you are going to battle to be first, because in PUBG you are a loser if you do not win. Whether you are 2nd or 32nd, you are just as big a loser as the one who is the first to leave the pipe.

To ensure that you are the winner of the battle, you must determine your tactics. Are you waiting and moving as little as possible, are you going to shoot everything you see from a secret window or are you looking for a car right away? It is just what you think is best.

Whichever tactic you use, it all creates more than enough tension. When you are in a two-story house and you suddenly hear the door open below your heart beats your throat. You hear footsteps beneath you, the footsteps are getting closer to the stairs and in no time you are standing in front of your nose. The time to that moment is abnormally exciting and causes the breath to be retained.

Failures

Despite the fact that PUBG is a game full of excitement there are also enough points to make the experience a lot more frustrating. Think of the texture packs, as in the screenshot below, which often take the time to load.

The framerate also leaves something to be desired. When you run around and look behind you quickly, it does not run very smoothly to say the least. Although this does not always happen, sometimes it is all smoother than other times.

In addition, the 1-on-1 battles in the game are not flawless, more bullets will end up in the vacuum than in the person who wants to rob you of life, even if you are a few meters away from each other. People walk like a chicken without head circles within a square meter to be hit as little as possible and this is at the expense of a whole bunch of bullets. You will soon notice that walking away is usually a better option than taking on the 1-on-1 fight.

Conclusion

In the Xbox One version of PUBG there are enough mistakes and imperfections that can make the experience of playing the game a lot less fun. A low frame rate and long loading of textures ensures that the game does not meet the requirements of today's standard in the game world.

But bearing in mind that PUBG is still in beta and we can expect improvement, we can safely say that for this phase of the game it is a topper and will be later. The game plays nicely and contains tension from start to finish. Without the heart in the throat and the butt on the tip of the chair, this game can not be played!
