Assassin's Creed I (XBOX 360) review

in #gaming6 years ago (edited)

Hello steemians, I hope that you guys are all doing great!!! I really can’t believe it is the weekend already. Today we are going to talk about a video game franchise called Assassin’s Creed, specifically the first Assassin’s Creed game released (XBOX 360). So let’s go ahead and begin! :)

Assassin’s creed was developed by the studio Ubisoft Montreal. The game was developed by a team of people with many different backgrounds and religions, in fact right from the start the game tells you that. It is important to mention this because there are a lot of religious reference in this game, which takes place during the third crusade era.

The Plot

The game starts with the main character being Desmond Miles. He has been kidnapped by a mysterious organization and at the place where he is being held captive, he realizes that he is going to be used for some top high tech experiment by some Doctor called Dr. Warren and his assistant Lucy. Dr. Warren is actually kind of creepy throughout the game. So Desmond finds out that he has a genetic memory from his ancestors (from the Crusades era) that can be accessed by some high tech device called the Animus. The animus does not only accesses his memories, it additionally recreates and artificial environment that Desmond can interact with, as if he was playing his ancestor at the time of the Crusades. Desmond soon learns that his ancestor was an assassin doing investigations at the request of the order of the Assassin’s (a sort of brotherhood organization).

The Graphics

Assassin’s Creed is an open-world environment game. There are a bunch of kingdoms to visit and the map is actually quite huge. I though that the graphics took good advantage of the technical performance of the XBOX 360 (512 MB RAM and 3.2GHz CPU with 3 cores). The buildings and castles are an absolute beauty and this gives a good idea of how things were during the crusades era. The uniforms that are worn by the characters throughout the game are also very realistic. The landscape between kingdoms looks also pretty wide and you can find yourself navigating for quite some time and visiting smaller villages, which I thought was nice.

Gameplay

I found the gameplay pretty good. On your first mission, you start with many weapons but due to Desmond’s poor decisions and arrogance, you lose almost all your weapons as a punishment. The more you finish new missions, the more assassin’s weapon you get. In terms of mission, usually you are summoned to go do an investigation in a kingdom.

Once you get in the kingdom, you usually have to go to a bureau where you will be given clues about how you need to start your investigation. At first, there are not that many places that you can go to in the city. This is due to the fact that the Assassin’s memory needs to be recovered. To recover your memory, you need to go on top of a few very high buildings and activate a specific view called “eagle view” to have a 360 degree vision of what the city looks like and hence recover your memory. Then you usually carry on with your investigation by pickpocketing some specific people that have very important messages/proof/clues for your investigation. At last, you have to assassinate a very important person in the city/kingdom based on the investigation and the clues that you got. The gameplay can be repetitive though, as you do those kind of missions during most of the game.

Difficulty

The game is not very difficult and I found the instructions very straight forward. Some enemies can be a little challenging to beat at first but that is because you have to primarily master the game controls. I found the AI of the game good, but not challenging. But that is probably because that was on XBOX 360, in other world on an older generation console. Sometimes you will have to complete some mini-objectives like capturing a bunch of flags on top of roofs within three minutes and you might not get all of them at first, but you will definitely eventually get them all.

Ideas in the game

The game has actually some pretty neat ideas. I liked the idea that you had to make yourself as a “low profile” to not piss off the guards. This reminded me of Metal Gear Solid. You have to be very sneaky in this game, otherwise the soldier will chase you quite a lot. Even when you assassinate sometimes you have to be very sneaky and do a “stealth assassination”. Sometimes, to get into a huge kingdom you will have to pretend to be a “scholar” (basically a type of monk) to get inside without pissing off the guards. You will also have to protect some citizens sometimes against some abusive guards. I like the idea that the character has to ride a horse to navigate between kingdoms. That gives the sensation of freedom to explore everything. I also thought that the Ubisoft did a tremendous job to produce an environment representing the Crusades era. There are lots of things to learn in this game from the flags, the dialogues, the castles, the buildings, the people’s behavior etc …

Conclusion

In conclusion, if you are looking for an action game with lots of history involved, the Assassin’s Creed games are for you. The first Assassin’s Creed is a very good game, although like I said after a long while it can feel repetitive in terms of the missions to complete. However, the plot evolves quite well throughout the game so you will never feel bored. I personally really enjoyed this game. I felt completely immersed in the Crusade’s environment and I also thought that they did a pretty good job on the main character from the way he fights enemies, to the way he talks during the character. He had a lot of charisma, he was a badass character to sum it up. I would probably give an 8/10 to this game.

Ok that was it guys, thank you for reading my post and I hope that you guys liked it! Tomorrow we will talk about a completely different subject which is Cristiano Ronaldo’s move to Juventus.

I will see you all tomorrow! :)

Fun fact: On the PS3, AC1 did not have any trophies (achievements) Those weren't added to AC games until AC2.

Oh really?!? Didn't know that, it's kind of interesting. Especially because Sony consoles tend to have more good games than other consoles (in overall of course). Yeah sometimes things like that happen in multiplatform games, like I remember there was some differences between ICO on the PS2 and on the PS3, or like the Harry Potter games.

Thank you for upvoting my post and commenting, I really appreciate it!

Thank you very much, I really appreciate it!! It is really an honor for me to be a part of such a wonderful community!!

Thank you again! :)

Wow! I was playing 1 and 2 of this games!
As you said, I enjoyed exploring the world of old history in this game!
But surely this games mission is slightly repetitive😅
But the operation is very easy and it is wonderful to enjoy it with ease😉

Oh you did? That is awesome! Yeah Assassin's Creed to me is a marvel on a lot of aspects.
I have a lot of respect for Ubisoft and also the way they treat their fans is awesome!
They are actually preparing "Beyong Good and Evil 2" by the way!

Yeah I wish the game mission was not that repetitive, that was the only thing negative that I saw about the game. But yeah, very enjoyable game really. Did you know that the Assassin's Creed franchise is even now used in school to teach history to young kids? To me, this shows the potential of the franchise.

I am not currently playing the game so much, so I'm not familiar with recent trends, but the Assassin series is fast and evolving speed is fantastic!

I did not know about the franchise!
The activities of the Assassin series are widespread and surprising.🤔
That is also the case in the movie series!
I was very surprised because I did not think that Assassin would be made into a movie

Yes there is actually a new Assassin's Creed coming up!
Yeah the movie series are awesome for sure!!! My sister in law loves them!
That is the power of Ubisoft, they definitely know how to diversify! :)
