The Last of Us Playthrough [Prologue]
Foreword
Naughty Dog’s magnum opus The Last of Us is what I would consider the greatest gaming experience of our time. The game hits so many high notes it’s an absolute masterwork. Today I begin a video playthrough of The Last of Us. I will be editing down the gameplay footage with SHAREfactory to streamline the over 20 hours of raw footage. I will include most of the crucial cut scenes and enough actual gameplay to keep the whole thing feeling cohesive. If you haven’t already, do yourself a favor and play this game, it is arguable one of the greatest game of all time.
The Past is Prologue
With that in mind I begin with the full and unedited prologue chapter of The Last of Us. This haunting and unforgettable chapter lays the ground work and motivation for Joel our main character. When I first played this game I was absolutely glued to the screen. I could not believe how the prologue ended. I had never seen anything like it in any game before. The line between game and cinema was never so blurred as it was with the Last of Us. The horrific and devastating tragedy we witness will forever change Joel. His attitudes, his belief systems, his humanity. All of those things are stripped bare and the hollow shell that remains is who we will inhabit for the rest of the game.

OMG! The ending is so sad! O_O
Agreed, probably the saddest thing I've seen in a video game. It helps that the voice acting is so good and the music is pitch perfect. Naughty Dog continues to borrow heavily from film and television. When those elements are used effectively in gaming I think the medium is capable of much more resonant and heartfelt emotions. Sadly it's rare to see this level of quality in most games.
