Mission 1 – D-Day

Omaha Beach

Part 1 of our Call of Duty: WWII playthrough has you set out on D-Day, a harrowing amphibious assault on Omaha beach in Normandy. The German defenses are nearly insurmountable but the cost of failure is too great. As the boat makes land fall and the ramp drops open enemy machine gun fire tears through your fellow soldiers. You scramble over the side of the boat and clamor your way to some cover on the beach. Everything around you is painted in death and horror. You can’t stay where you are. The enemy has you and everyone else pinned down. You move frantically from cover position to cover position until you reach a sand berm covered with razor wire.

You light the fuse on a Bangalore which blows open a hole in the seawall allowing everyone to advance into the massive network of German trenches and bunkers. There are five machine gun bunkers ripping the soldiers landing on the beach apart. There’s no time to delay so you push into the complex to clear those bunkers and protect the incoming waves of allied reinforcements. As you move trench to trench bunker to bunker you realize the enormity of the war before you and this is only the beginning.

Only the Beginning

While clearing one of the last bunkers a German soldier gets the drop on you. You are almost killed but your close friend Zussman saves your life. But before he does the German soldier stabs him in the abdomen. You grab Zussman and start dragging him out of the bunker to safety. The German’s attack you but you are able to fight them off. You eventually get Zussman back to the command post where a medic takes over. It doesn’t look good but you don’t have the luxury of worrying about it right now.

The Germans have been pushed from the beachhead and you now control the bunkers. But there’s enemy artillery nearby and it’s still pounding the beach. Your squad moves to a nearby farmhouse to take it out. The German’s mount a counter offensive and you’re pinned down taking heavy fire. Through sheer force of will you and your squad mates hold the farmhouse until allied armor arrives and the Germans retreat. With the area clear you set some explosives and blow the artillery.
