Upcoming Games 2019 (3).png

Hey there everybody, hope you’re all doing well, and welcome to my Top 5 Most Anticipated Games Of 2019 List! This past year has been such a fantastic time for gaming, with so many great titles to choose from. We’ve seen sequels that took a series to a whole new level, games from the past brought back to life with amazing remakes, huge AAA titles that blew everyone away, and some surprisingly well done indie gems. Every year talented developers continue to provide us with countless hours of entertainment, pushing the boundaries of what we thought was possible, and I’m sure 2019 will be no different. It remains to be seen exactly what’s in store for us, but I’m already very excited about many of the games that have been announced. So sit back, relax, and let’s get started.

#5 - Death Stranding

My interest in this game could drastically change for the better or worse once more information is released on it. This was first announced at E3 2016, and since then we’ve only seen vague teasers here and there that don’t really explain what it’s about, or what style it will be. So far everything I’ve seen looks really interesting, and from some recent reports given by people who have been working on the project it seems like this will be coming out fairly early on in 2019. If this is true than we should be getting a much better look at Death Stranding very soon. This is being developed by the legendary Hideo Kojima, and it will be the first title released by his brand new company, Kojima Productions.

A few years ago I was beyond hyped for the new Silent Hill game that Kojima was working on for Konami, with Walking Dead actor, Norman Reedus. Silent Hill is one of my favorite survival horror franchises, and with Kojima at the helm it was sure to be something remarkable. Unfortunately Konami fired Hideo before it could be developed. So instead he started his own studio to work on Death Stranding which will feature Norman Reedus, Mads Mikkelsen, and Guilliermo del Toro as characters in the game to some capacity. Now that Kojima has full control over his projects I have high hopes that, whatever this is, it will turn out to be something really amazing.

#4 - The Last Of Us: Part 2

Anyone who played The Last Of Us should know what an incredible game that was. It was originally released at the tail end of the PS3 life cycle, but quickly got a remastered version that was ported over to the PS4. It’s an action-adventure survival horror game developed by Naughty Dog, the same people who made Crash Bandicoot, and the Uncharted series. The game took place twenty years after the events of a devastating outbreak that destroyed most of human civilization. You played as the character of Joel as he tried to safely escort a young girl named Ellie across the post apocalyptic United States. She was somehow immune to the disease, and was the only hope anyone had of creating a cure.

It’s been a long time since the release of that game, but now we are finally getting close to being able to play the long awaited sequel. We’ve only been able to see short clips of what this next entry to the series will be like, but from the gameplay trailer shown at E3 2018 it looks like it will be just as good as the original. As of right now we only know that we’ll be playing as Ellie, who’s now an adult, and still living in a very dangerous world. No one is sure if Joel will be making a return, I for one hope he does, but either way this looks like it will be a fantastic game. There’s still no release date as of yet, besides sometime in 2019.

#3 - Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice

One series that I fell in love with this gen was Dark Souls. My first experience was with the spin-off game Bloodborne, and once I got hooked on that I immediately played all three Dark Souls titles. Something about those games hits me just right, in a way that no other game ever has. The incredible enemy and world design is definitely a highlight, but so is the punishing level of difficulty that you have to master. Unfortunately the developers announced that they’re not going to make anymore Dark Souls games, but at E3 2017 we got a teaser trailer for their next project that I thought might be Bloodborne 2. It wasn’t, instead it was a game called Sekiro that takes place in 16th century Japan, where you play as a Shinobi.

I’m very excited to finally play this, and I already have a copy of the collectors edition pre ordered. Much like how Bloodborne changed up the formula of Dark Souls, while still feeling like it belonged in the same family, Sekiro has also made a lot of changes that will surely take things in a new direction. It’s stripping away the RPG elements, such as character creation, classes, equipment upgrades, and multiplayer, to focus on a more cohesive single player experience, with a larger story. It’s also adding a bunch of new things into the mix to make it stand out from the other games FromSoftware has developed in the past. I have complete faith in them to make this an amazing game, and the best part is, it will be out on March 22, 2019.

#2 - Cyberpunk 2077

This is a game that I’ve been excited about ever since it was first announced, even though not much information was available at the time. More recently we’ve been able to get a closer look at what it has to offer, with a pretty lengthy gameplay video that released shortly after E3 2018. After watching that, and seeing the incredible game world, some of the characters, and a few mechanics, I’m more hyped than ever. This can’t come soon enough, and when it does I’m sure I’ll sink over a hundred hours into it. Hopefully it doesn’t run into any unforeseen development problems that will cause a big delay, but I have a good feeling this will be out sometime next year.

Cyberpunk 2077 is a futuristic role playing game that takes place in a massive urban area known as, Night City. It's played in a first person perspective where you'll take on the role of V, a mercenary that you can freely customize with all sorts of body augmentations that will drastically change the way you play the game. This is being developed by CD Project Red, the people behind The Witcher 3, which was one of the best RPGs of this generation. They’re a company that takes their time to craft the best game they possibly can, and this looks like an even more ambitious project than the Witcher. I love everything I’ve seen about the game so far, and with such a prestigious development company behind this, it’s sure to be something very special.

#1 - Resident Evil 2: Remake

Way back in 2002 the Resident Evil 1 Remake was released for the Gamecube. Not only did it faithfully recreate everything about the original game, it also improved many aspects, severely upgraded the graphics, and even added new areas. This quickly became one of my favorite games, helping to solidify my obsession with survival horror. Capcom did such a great job that it still holds up today as one of the best titles in it's genre. So naturally I, like everyone else, thought that they must surely be making a Resident Evil 2 Remake that would also get released for the Gamecube. I patiently waited for an announcement, but nothing ever came of it. Then finally, in August of 2015, Capcom said the words I was longing to hear, the Resident Evil 2 Remake was in development. After waiting a ridiculous 17 years, it's now only a month away from coming out.

I don't know what took them so long to realize fans wanted this when it seemed like an obvious thing to do back in 2002, but better late than never I guess. It's hard for me to definitively pick a favorite from the series when there's so many good ones, but I think Resident Evil 2 might be the best one. You can play as either Leon Kennedy, or Claire Redfield, and each character has their own separate campaign. After you beat the game with one of them you can play through it again with the other to get the full story of what happened, giving the game a high replayability factor. The Remake has made a few changes such as, amazing new graphics using the new RE Engine, an over the shoulder camera third person perspective, and completely new areas to explore. There are dozens of upcoming games that I'm excited about, but after waiting 17 years this one is easily my most anticipated.
