NBA 2K19 -The Prelude (game): Not great if you don't know the game

in #gaming6 years ago (edited)

This game is free so I suppose I shouldn't get too hardcore in my complaints but I found it all to be a bit strange. I would imagine that the entire idea behind having a free game is to entice you to want to buy the real version or perhaps some upgrades but at least for me, this game failed, bigly.

You know how people like playing basketball games on their consoles but really wanted it to be turned into an RPG including extreme character design complete with facial feature and hair customization and what not? Yeah, me neither.... but that is exactly what this game is.

You start the game out as an unknown who is competing in a local basketball tournament in order to gain notoriety. As you progress you get agents and eventually this leads to you getting a big contract and playing in the pros. I suppose there is a market for this sort of thing but it 'aint me!"

I think the strangest thing about this game is that there is no tutorial or even a pause menu to have a look at what the controls might be. So basically I am just running around doing F*#K all, losing badly regardless of who my opponents were. Despite this, you still manage to advance which kind of reminds me of the Thai educational system. You lost 20 to 4 so now obviously you are playing in the final!

Perhaps this game was designed purely for people that were already familiar with the many years of games that came before but this seems an odd tactic since at least an optional tutorial would be a good idea.

That trailer doesn't show much in the way of gameplay but I will say this: The gameplay is actually visually stunning but none of that really matters if after an hour or so you still have no clue what the hell is going on. I recently ordered NBA 2K18 because it is significantly cheaper than 2K19 and I am not terribly familiar with the current lineups anyway. I think a game that has instructions, and lets you access the actual professional teams will be a bit more exciting to me.

I don't know who asked for a game like this to exist, but I suspect it is a fringe audience and maybe that is the reason why it was free. Despite the zero cost, I can't really recommend that anyone play this unless you are already familiar with the controls or enjoy a high level of frustration.

I have not played lately because of the problem of light and especially because I hurt my console, but this game looks interesting to play with a friend ... Although my favorite game is football in play2 hahaha is very good hours playing esoo. Friend greetings

I've never been really impressed with games that have such an in depth focus on what your character looks like. I just want to get along with the game for goodness sakes. Sure, I will take the female night elf hunter. I don't care what color hair she has... Introducing that amount of customization into a basketball game seems silly to me. The only sports game I have ever really enjoyed playing was Joe Montana football and Blitzball in Final Fantasy X

The character customization is very dumb in most games but I actually do know people (Asians) that will spend more on that aspect of the game than the actual game itself. :)

So you do badly and still end up in the final? What really is the game motive? Is it to enjoy the thrills and skews of basketball? If this is definitely it then the game failed then it becomes not cool for me, I don't really know but I think I'll check out the game myself, way uncool
