Mount & Blade: Warband - Review

Short Introduction

What's up guys, it's ggteixeira, just an average guy who enjoys playing games and for today's post we'll be reviewing the game 'Mount & Blade: Warband.' Before we get started I want to go ahead and state that this review is based off of mostly personal opinion so please keep this in mind while reading through. You can agree with me or disagree with me and that's 100% okay!

Without anymore time to waste let's get right into the game itself!

What is 'Mount & Blade: Warband?'

Mount & Blade: Warband is an open world single-player sandbox fantasy-medieval RPG where you create and play a character in the war-torn lands of Calradia. The game also has it's own multiplayer where you can with up to 200 players do battle on a variety of different custom maps and game-modes.

Let's go ahead and start with covering the game's most renown mode, it's single-player. Why single-player so well known and respected? Well the answer to that is simple; the game's sandbox setting with a massive amount of content, the unique combat tons of fun to learn, play with then master and finally the endless replay ability with the game's amazing modding community.

Content, content and even more content!

Mount & Blade to me creates the illusion of having endless amounts of content and it technically does. When you first start up the game you create a character, forge a backstory then play out said character however you choose in a large and well-imagined medieval fantasy world.

You're thrown right into such a vast world with so many things to do that sometimes you don't even know where you want to start! SOME examples of things to do in the game but not all include; starting a merchant caravan, becoming an outlaw, becoming a noble, fighting a war and so much more. I remember when I first started I spent hours building up a private army, gaining renown through winning local tournaments and then sieging a castle only to have it taken away from me again not soon after!

Trust me when I tell you that there's always something to do in this game keeping players hooked for hours and even days on end, especially if they're end goal is to conquest the entire HUGE map!

Does thou even combat?

Mount & Blade's combat is something else. Since the game is set in a medieval era, there aren't any modern weapons include guns, bombs and so forth. Instead most of the fighting is done either face-to-face, on top a horse or a safe distance away using either bow or crossbow.

Shooting a bow and fighting from on top a horse are just as you'd expect them to be. A bow is a hard to aim weapon used to fire from a safe distance away at your enemies while a horse used to quickly move around the map, but where the game's combat really stands out is it's face-to-face melee. It's so much fun to pick up and learn, plus there's a massive skill cap rewarding players who spend a fair amount of time learning the game's mechanics. How the combat works though is pretty simple the basis being that you can attack and block in four different directions, up, down, left and finally right. Your goal is to try and block the same way in which wherever enemy is swinging while trying to catch them off guard by landing an attack of your own. The variety of different weapons changing up an attack's damage, pace and range really mix things up making it even that more immersive and fun. The melee combat is honestly one of the core reason why Mount & Blade stands out so much as a game.

The Community

Mount & Blade is an old game and has definitely stood the test of time. It's also built up a great community which has in turn made the game greater in itself by expanding on it's base. Tons of DLC content and mods have been created adding HUNDREDS of more fun playable hours to the game.

To put it simply, the game's community is great and always active making an already good game even better!

Multiplayer

Now that we've finished and wrapped up the game's single-player, let's move onto the game's multiplayer. It's lots of fun. Fighting a battle against an AI is great and all but doing it against other real people is honestly so much more fun. Fighting a medieval-set war with hundreds of other players in complete chaos while each team desperately tries to complete their objective is both tons of fun to watch and play.

The maps for the multiplayer are seemingly endless as player-owned servers have the ability to create and use their own custom maps. You'll find yourself battling on a unique and different map each time really adding a refreshing feel to the multiplayer. The game-modes though sadly stay the same but that doesn't mean that they're not fun and great to play themselves. The two most popular game-modes include battle where each player per round has only one life and is thrown into one of two teams meant to do battle against each other while the other game-mode, siege, has attackers trying to take some sort of fortification or keep away from a defending team.

Conclusion

I'd like to go ahead and thank you all for reading, I hope you guys enjoyed. Let me know what you guys think of the game below and as always I hope each and every one of you guys has a wonderful day!
