League of Legends - Kayn, my own Champion Spotlight
Before we start, what is League of Legends?
"League of Legends (abbreviated LoL) is a multiplayer online battle arena video game developed and published by Riot Games for Microsoft Windows and macOS. The game follows a freemium model and is supported by microtransactions, and was inspired by the Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne mod, Defense of the Ancients." A perfect description of the game which I borrowed from it's own wiki page here.
I'd also like to add on that League of Legends is considered a MOBA game. What does this mean? Well, it means that it's a mix between RPG and RTS genre games where you select a champion from a large pool on heroes to play controlling them as you do battle on whichever map and game-mode you pick. League has a variety of different maps and game modes, but the single most popular is it's standard 5v5 on Summoner's Rift where the objective is to through whatever means get through the enemies' defenses and destroy their nexus (base) whilst also trying to protect your own. One reason why this game-mode is so popular is because of it's only use in the League of Legends large pro competitive scene.
Before continuing on to the post itself I'd like to go ahead and state that if you guys have any further questions about League feel free to ask below, I'll make sure to reply as soon as possible. I'm here to help!
So let's move onto my;
Kayn is the newest addition to the League of Legends champion roster. Like a variety of different champions in the game, Kayn can either go more assassin oriented or bruiser oriented but is capable of doing so better then any other champion due to his own unique passive that's never been done on any champion before. His passive allows Kayn to transform once per game to one of two different champions, a skilled human assassin or a demonic Darkin fighter.
After playing a few games with Kayn, against Kayn and as Kayn, I can safely say that I'm happy with the way he turned out as a champion. He's balanced and more importantly tons of fun to play. Finding a champion that's able to do both, especially right after release is a rather uncommon thing, which in my opinion is what makes Kayn so special.
Kayn's Gameplay and artwork.
Before we move onto gameplay, let's talk about Kayn's artwork and looks. They're both really good, well done and unique looking. He definitely looks a bit edgy and like something out of an anime, but that's completely forgivable (Sorry anime fans) due to his sick dialogue and great detail on his splash art as well while you're playing him in game. I mean, just look at how cool his two different forms look;
Kayn's fighter Darkin form, a dangerous and powerful demon
Kayn's assassin human form, a skilled and deadly assassin
With that out of the way, let's get right into what matters really matters, Kayn's gameplay. Like I said in the beginning Kayn is two champions in one. Not a hybrid like tons of other champions, but a unique one or the other. His passive ability allows him to transform once each game to either an assassin-based champion or fighter-based one. Based on what he transforms into, his future abilities change as well.
Let's start right away with my favorite ability in his kit, his ultimate. When used, Kayn can bury himself inside an enemy champion hiding away for a few seconds before bursting out at a time and direction of his choosing doing a bit of damage. This is great for literally sticking to a champion, dodging abilities or taunting a low-health player with a certain death flawed hope insult. It's tons of fun to use and can lead to really cool situations. Next up his second ability, his W where he reaps a certain area in front of him using his scythe. When he's in assassin form it has longer range and can be used while moving. While in his Darkin form it knocks the champions up and does more damage.
Here you can see Kayn's ultimate and W at work
Next up are his last two abilities, his Q and E. His Q makes it so Kayn dashes forth doing damage before twirling his scythe around doing more damage. While in his assassin form this does more damage. Finally comes Kayn's E, which allows him to literally walk through walls, move faster and heal for a small portion of his health.
Kayn's Q at work in both forms
Overall Kayn's abilities are really fun to play around with and if mastered, deadly in the right hands. Best part about it all? They're all balanced.
Kayn's Lore
My favorite part about League of Legends is it's lore. It's a living breathing world with a long history written up by Riot's skilled writers. Each champion is given a rich story to fit them into this world and Kayn is no different.
Originally born in Noxia, Kayn was conscripted into the army as a mere boy and sent off to the foreign lands of Ionia to fight in the second Ionia-Noxia war. There, alongside hundreds of other children Kayn was sent off into battle as the leading vanguard force expected to be slaughtered. But unlike most the other children, Kayn didn't die. He tossed aside his heavy armor and blade, picking up a farmer's scythe before using his small size towards his own advantage. Whilst others fought head on against the Ionians and perished, Kayn snuck around the shadows dealing deadly precise blows from behind.
Kayn was wounded in battle though and deemed weak by the Noxians as they left him behind before marching forth after the battle. It was only after where Zed, the leader of the Order of the Shadow found Kayn deciding to take him into his group as an acolyte and student. Kayn for the next few wears trained and mastered the ways as well weapons of an assassin surpassing most of the other students in skill. Soon Kayn would be sent out on a final test to prove himself to the order, a test where he would be sent to destroy a secret weapon in Noxia before it could be used on Ionia.
Once Kayn had found the weapon, he learned that unlike most other weapons it was alive and possessed great power. Instead of destroying it like he should've, he decided to take and wield it. But Kayn was caught off guard. Though the weapon gave him great power, it also corrupted him as the Darkin inside, Rhaast an evil demon tried to take hold of it's new foolish host Kayn.
But Kayn would not be so easily to give in as the two now not only do battle alongside each other on the field, but against each other inside as one tries to grasp a hold and conquer the other.
Conclusion
