The best free2play game
Action-rpgs were my prefert game of choice since Diablo 2.
I was playing Diablo 3 since the release and put countless hours into the game but for several reasons I did not quite enjoy it like the predecessor.
Path of Exile is not only free but one if not the best action-rpg game I ever played
It had everything I was missing in the other games. From trading to several build choices.
The game gets regular major updates and it is not pay2win at all. In fact the only things you can buy are cosmetic or stash tabs but you cant buy some ingame currency and be at the top.
The game has an incredible deepness to it and the endgame is just fantastic especially for an action-rpg.
In fact there is a lot I have not seen myself despite putting over 200 hours into the game over the last years.
One reason for this is of course the seasons were everything gets set to start again and the exiles go out and slay monsters again and face the new challenges.
The complexity of the game makes it not really newby friendly though.
It is up to you what you want to focus on. You want more life or more damage? More cast speed or minion life? You can find everything in those so called nodes.
But beware, if you don`t know what you are doing you end up with an charakter who cant kill anything anymore at lvl 60 (happens to first one).
Luckily there are countless guides and if you are new I highly recommend you use one. As they usually go in great detail why the build works like it does, which stats your items should have and general tips.
Also dont be discouraged when you start out.
You wake up at the beach get your first skill and walk along a beach full of zombies and skeletons which are kind of kicking your ass if you dont watch out.
It is hard to believe that your charakter will annihilate several screens of monsters in the future.
I wish they had a small part at the beginning, were you play as a really strong and well equipped charakter before you start your real one, so you can get a taste of how the game feels later as the beginning is a bit slow and tidious.

I like Diablo 3 a little bit more, but I also think that POE is a great game. Also, Grinding Gear Games treats the game better than Blizzard does with Diablo.
Nearly 2 weeks ago a new big update, Synthesis, was released. You might be interested, @mattclarke always organized a 24 hour hardcore tournament for the start of the last seasons. At the last one I was allowed to participate and it was very cool and exhausting.

The next one should be about three months from now.
As you said, the complexity is the small problem of POE. On the other hand, it gives you a lot of possibilities later on. Even if the skill tree kills you the first time you look at it, you should definitely give the game a chance
I used to like d3 more as well but atm I am fed up with it.
It lost quite a bit of fun when trading Was taken out of the game as I always enjoyed that quite a bit.

The trading was very interesting, earning real money by gaming was cool. But the whole thing was unfortunately not really finished and could be cheated too easily.
Diablo 3 I always play with @dotwin1981 to the season start. Usually 2 weeks intensively and then it is enough again. :)
oh yes. 2 weeks is more then enough :)
It was not even about the Real money, more about the hunt for a good item and bildung wealth ingame.

I totally agree! This is the best game in its genre. Made with a soul. And the productivity of developers is amazing!
You can see that is game made by fans for fans of the genre

I still have the install icon on my desktop. I don't like Pay to Win Games but well, these guys have to make money somehow right?
they make it through selling cosmetics.
It is totally not pay2win.
The only thing is, you have a very limited stash as a free2play player to hord your goods you punshed out of the monsters.
After seemingly countless hours of entertaining I bought some stashs as it very handy and is not really expensive.
Also if the game is this good, I dont mind paying a bit as long as it stays fair
ok, sounds just like Guild Wars 2 then. I can deal with that (as I have dealt with GW2 for nearly 5 years now)
